Can Tennessee score enough points to beat Baltimore?
Dan Patrick on his radio show.
Shouldn't you ask that question the other way around as well? It is amazing to me that people forget how good the Titans defense is.

lol
it’s probably only going to take 6 points or so…

This from the Sporting News - One of three key matchups.
2. Ravens QB Joe Flacco vs. Titans’ secondary. Reed is the Ravens’ lone standout in the secondary, but the Titans have more of a fearsome foursome of interceptions. The left side of safety Michael Griffin and cornerback Cortland Finnegan is most dangerous. But cornerback Nick Harper (who like Griffin, intercepted Flacco in Week 8) and Pro Bowl-bound safety Chris Hope also have a nose for the ball.
Flacco was turnover-free in his first-ever playoff game against Miami on Sunday. If he protects the ball again, the Ravens have a great chance for a road upset.

0 TDs, 2 INTs and a QB rating of 50 in our last game for Flacco
I expect a performance more along those lines…

Seriously?
Flacco was 3 games old.

he wasn't much better yesterday...
9-23 (39% completion) and 135 yards with no TDs won’t get it done against us, I promise you that… Flacco will be a stud and has had a very nice rookie year, but asking him to hold his own in this game is an extremely tall order.

I think he'll play better.
I also expect KC to play better. And I think that the fact that the game was in Baltimore last time was a big deal.
Honestly, the biggest deal last time was that McGahee was hurt and KVB was out for most of the game. If both those guys are back in, that’s a big plus for the Titans. Because McClain is about 3x what McGahee is, and KVB is still > Dave Ball, despite the fact that Ball has played pretty dang well.
The Titans need to stop the run and get more pressure. If that happens, then I think Flacco can be had. If the Titans do not get pressure, then it’s a much more difficult proposition.

Our Depth
I could make an argument that its almost a good thing when the backup D-Linemen play and at least one of our starters is out. It seems all year (no numbers to back it up) that I’ve been thinking “Oh crap—-so and so is out this week.” then the backups come in and dominate and remind us how good they are. Not looking for anyone to be hurt, but there are some interesting things with our depth that make me proud.

I have no doubt the defense will be there
… my concern is will we be able to run against the ravens this time. if we run the ball well, the less KC has to throw and the lesser chance for an INT.
What do you guys think of LDW running on 1st down instead of CJ? I remember CJ going nowhere on 1st down runs.

I think KC has to do what he didn't do last time until the 4th Quarter.
Complete passes and make them stop playing the run.
LDW or CJ could maybe run for a few, but the main thing is that Collins has to make them pay for focusing on the run.

Agree completely.
Teams that have beaten the Ravens have done so with short passes that take advantage of their blitzes. KC can do that. In fact, that is one of his strengths. But he has to play better than he did against them the first time.

we gotta have more than 48 yards running the ball to make that happen...
I think the RBs and the D-line play are where the extra rest will give us a huge boost

Great point on the short passing game
That was the only success Pennington had in their playoff game but the Dolphin coaches failled to stick with it. A blind man could have seen it. Not only does it move the ball consistently against the stinkbirds but it also keeps wearing down the defense, a double edged sword.
by Cajuncub on Jan 5, 2009 12:27 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
The Colts use that same Offense to KILL the Ravens every time they play.
The difference being the Manning can throw those short outs all day without an off-target pass, and his coaches are smart enough to stick with what’s working without getting greedy.

I think the perception
is that our offense is more wobbily than the Ravens offense. Statistically, the two offenses are in fact pretty close this year. I think the fact that the Ravens have an offense that can move the ball at all and with a rookie qb no less have generated some extra hype for them that adds to the perception that their offense is more capable than ours.
Stat wise, they are 18th in total yards, we are 21st, Passing we’re 27th they are 28th, Rushing they are 4th, we are 7th in yards.

I'm pretty sure we're well ahead of them in the meaningful category: Scoring.
Also, FO has the Ravens not at all close to the Titans in terms of Offensive efficiency.

Nope
Actually they are 11th in the NFL on scoring offense at 24.1 points per game with Titans at 14th with 23.4 points per game.
FO stats, that’s still voodoo to me how they calculate that stuff ;-).
Stats aside though, I think their offense has gotten more hype this year because, well, it’s an OFFENSE. On the RAVENS. Since when does their offense score more points than their defense ;-)?
by numbertenox on Jan 5, 2009 2:05 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
On FO, we're 14th and the Ravens are 18th.
However, the Titans fell about a half-dozen spots after thw Week 17 game. I was remembering the Week 16 stats, which had the Titans Offense in the Top 10 and the Defense in the Top 5 on FO’s rankings. That last game killed the Titans for FO for almost every category.

Yeah
makes sense – I’m sure it didn’t help the simple NFL stats either (a goose egg can’t be good any way you try to slice it up).
Still, such similar teams. Great D, physical, not great at passing, very good rushing offenses, and improved offenses from previous year in both cases (although in one case grizzled veteran gets the helm and in the other a newbie).
I think the Titans win it (aside from being a fan, I do think our offense against their D at home will do better than other way round). But, we may end up with a number of injuries even if we pull it out.

I see this game as all about Kerry Collins.
If he can hit some receivers on the outside in the face of the blitz, then the Titans win. If he throws three picks, the Titans lose. On the other side, I’m not as worried. The Ravens may pile up some yards, but I don’t think they’ll score a lot of points.

all i know is nobody likes us to win...again
they were ready for us to just hand the #1 seed to the steelers. trust me, we shook that team to thier core. they wont admit it was us but it WAS us!

probably more to do with reputation
all these football talking heads probably have watched 2 or 3 games of each team (one of which was probably the jets game) and just go off of what they know from highlights and reputation. the ravens have superstars on d like ed reed and ray lewis, etc… we have haynesworth and unknown stars like grif and finnegan.
its easy to see how people forget how good our d is.
anyways, i think our offense can score more points than the ravens offense. i just hope that the ravens d doesn’t put a couple in the end zone.

K-A-R-M-A
Being the No.1 seed does not mean CRAP when you don’t respect the game…. Cowher was right to criticize Bullock and White about the Terrible Towel… It caused a disturbance in The Force… Just ask T. J. Houshmandzadeh, after he wiped his feet on the Towel… Carson Palmer was knocked out with torn knee ligaments in the wildcard Playoff game on the FIRST play and the Steelers went on to win the Superbowl! Now Pittsburgh MAY get an AFC championship at home (IF) they beat the Chargers…It is all about (R-E-S-P-E-C-T) of the game! Did anyone see Cowher grin after the loss?
PS. Great shots of Bullock acting like a BIG Baby, pushing fencing over after LOSING to the Ravens…. See ya in July…
