Fisher should have been Coach of the Year?
I wanted to get an idea of what your impression was of Jeff Fisher losing out in the Coach of the Year award? I created a statistical analysis which ranked each head coach on their team's performance and found that Fisher was the best coach this year. What do you guys think?
Here is a summary of my analysis.
"With a final score of 404.12, Jeff Fisher of the Tennessee Titans is the 2008 FootballGenerals.com Head Coach of the Year. People tend to forget Fisher’s accomplishments as the first year head coaches get most of the press - no one thought the Titans would lead the league with a 13-3 record, especially without their top quarterback.
Fisher ranked in the top three in four different coaching statistics. He led the league with a +95 scoring differential in the second half, giving evidence that he clearly out coached his peers and was able to successfully implement his in game adjustments on a week to week basis. The Titans were an impressive 12-4 against the Vegas Spread, good for second in the league and displaying the fact that Fisher had his team playing above even high expectations all year. Fisher also led Tennessee to an impressive +17 turnover ratio (good for second in the league) and had the team playing well when it counted, as they were 3rd in the league in red zone efficiency combining both the offensive and defensive aspects of the game."
Do you agree that he was robbed of the award by the media? The whole post Mike Vick story in Atlanta played better for the media, and that is why I think Mike Smith won the award over Fisher.
I have been a constant reader of this site all season - keep up the good work!

Before the Texans game I would have said yes.
But after that decision to go for it on 4th down and left the game up to our piss poor receivers instead of at least letting Bironas (one of the soundest players on our team year after year) give it a shot, I have to say Fish’s decisions after that were a little suspect.
I am a HUGE Fisher fan but I would say that there were definitely better stories than us going 13-3 and then screwing the dog in the first round. If we would have gone and won the Super Bowl then I would have a very different opinion. But we didn’t. We got exactly what we deserved.
TOMLIN FOR Coach Of The Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )

I don't think he was robbed
That’s not to say Fish didn’t do a great job. But, I think it’s easier to make a case for Tony Sporano or Mike Smith given the turnarounds they produced.
Fisher just has bad luck
He always seems to be 2nd on the list, but he can’t break over to get it. In 2007, we went 10-6 and made the playoffs despite a struggling QB and a mediocre running game. That’s great coaching. BUT, the Patriots went 16-0 and since they vote on the award before the Superbowl, everybody felt obligated to give it to Belichek.
This year, Miami and Atlanta were just too good of stories to pass up. It’s too bad, I think he deserves it, but I can’t tell you what season he should’ve won it in.
