Interesting Article on the VY/Kerry Collins situation
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/01/collins-the-right-choice-for-titans/
Article by Matt Bowen of the National Football Post, a great website.
I think this is a very fair-handed treatment of Vince Young and the situation as a whole. He doesn't completely blast VY (like I do a lot), but he isn't delusional about his play or potential either (like some fans). He also points out that KFC earned the starting position more than Vince Young lost it.

Disagree with the decision, if true
As I’ve said elsewhere, it’s a mistake to bring Kerry back unless the competition is open. I think it’s short sighted. Because, I can’t see a scenario where Vince sits on the bench this year and stays on the team the next year. His contract after this next year is huge.
Then what, do we turn to Chris Simms? I don’t get the warm fuzzies about that scenario.
Draft a QB? This years draft class is marginal at best. And, will Kerry even be around year after next for a QB to sit and develop? Fish maintains that they want Chris and Vince back. So, would they draft a rookie and carry 4 QBs on the roster?
It depends on the priority here
Which is where I agree with this article.
If the concern is trying to develop the QB we drafted high and spent a lot of money on, then this is a bad decision.
If it’s about what gives us the best chance to win in 2009, I think it’s the best decision the Titans could’ve made.
It is always tough to balance between developing a young QB and winning, but in our position, winning has to take full priority. We were 13-3 and could’ve easily been 14-2 if we kick a 49 yard field goal in Houston instead of going for it. We were a non-called delay of game and an Alge Crumpler not going vertical at the worst possible time EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD (sorry I get a bit emotional thinking about that), from playing the Steelers, a team hand made for us to beat, in the AFC Championship.
I know we have no actual proof that VY wouldn’t have led us to 13-3 etc., etc., although I feel it’s a stretch to say he would have, but we do have proof Collins can lead us there, so there isn’t any reason not to bring him back as the starter.
If we had gone 9-7 or 10-6 again, I’d say bring back VY and let’s see if he develops (which I think he won’t but that’s a different argument for a different time), but we went 13-3. He earned the job, and proved he can lead us to an elite record.
I just think winning takes precedence over developing a mental head case who quite possibly is a downgrade to KFC (and all statistical evidence points to this). If we were 9-7 and barely a playoff team, I’d change my opinion.

As much as I hate to say it but...
Eventually Kerry will get hurt and then the door is wide open for Vince to come back. Then and only then will we know for sure which way to go. If Vince struggles, we lose, whatever then back to the bench he goes when Kerry recovers (and then we can start talking trade, etc…). If he plays lights out then we’ll know he’s back. Fish in his genius will let this play out and it will totally be in Vince’s hands to come off the bench and be a hero. We shall see how he responds.
I agree
It can’t hurt to have to reliable QBs anyway… The question is, is Vince reliable?

I know, I know
Just wanted an excuse to post the highlights.
That player is still in there somewhere….
that video reminds me why we drafted pac man.
that laser beam vince threw to b jones in the back of the endzone with the flick of a wrist was a great throw. but man, that seems like last century.
The Official Enforcer of MCM
maybe i'll be eating crow when vince lights it up in preseason....
but i doubt it. i think this article hits the nail right on the head. kerry has to get injured in order for vince to get his job back….
