NFL Championship Sunday Open Thread
Here are your SB Nation blogs representing today's teams:
NFC (2:00 central on FOX)
Eagles- Bleeding Green Nation
Cardinals- Revenge of the Birds
AFC (5:30 central on CBS)
Ravens- Baltimore Beatdown
Steelers- Behind the Steel Curtain
I am not even sure what to type here. Use this thread to disucss the two championship games taking place today. I probably won't watch much of either of them, but I will be pulling for the Steelers this Sunday with the same enthusiasm I have when watching the Titans.
GO STEELERS!!

I’ve got no problem cheering for the Steelers. The only thing sweeter to me than watching the Titans win a big game is watching the Ravens lose one.
That said, of course I’ll be cheering for the Cards in the Super Bowl.

Movin' on up to the big time........................
Well it’s too bad the “best” team didn’t get to play today but the team with the best towels won another one when it really counted. Hope all you Titan folks have a nice winter and will find ways to forget about what could have been, look at things in a more objective fashion, and spend less time hurling insults at other teams, their players, and their fans. I’ll take the Steelers when the money and the rings are on the line. No one’s won 6 rings yet (disco + post disco era) but it sure would be sweet. I think it might take a number of years for your guys to catch up to 5, but 6 might be downright unapproachable. :)

you really don't have anything better to do than to come here and gloat?
Good luck in the Superbowl.
By the way, your team is pretty cool… but the fans that can be real dickheads. Way to keep the tradition alive.

Funny...
He’s acting like he’s already won the Super Bowl. Wouldn’t surprise me if Arizona pulled an upset. They’ve definitely got the offense to do it. I’ll be pulling for the Cards for sure.

honestly i dont understand it.
i have to stay off the blogs. you guys take the fun out of the whole experience. you have a great team but i’ve never seen such juvenile behavior from grown men (at least i think you are).
we get it already, you LOVE the flippen’ towel! i am in awe of the steelers team, its great to see a blue collar town stick it to the ny’s, dallas’s, boston’s and all the other so called “big market/money” teams..but for God sakes grow the hell up!

I thought...
I thought we just stomped on towels and it was everyone else in the world including steelers fans who started the insults and ugly behavior.
We just step on towels.
You do dirty and ugly things.

Not that funny ...
I’m not sure what that (d…head) term means. Is it anything like a ghetto redneck or a neanderthal?
If you’ve watched the posts here on Music City for the past few weeks you’ve probably noticed that a number of the locals have tended to react to anything that doesn’t agree with their line of thinking with expletives, “just go away” invitations, and big rants about how the Titans “raped” the Steelers when they played. So it seems that a small bit of payback is to be expected. It almost guaranteed that you Titan lovers will be pulling for Arizona. That was one way the Steelers won the 2008 award for the best fans in the NFL – they scored points for the hate factor – how much other teams fans love to hate the Steeler fans. And by the way, the Steelers will be in trouble in the Super Bowl if they play as sloppy as they did tonight at times: stupid penalty, dropped touchdown pass, ridiculous punt, shoddy clock management, etc. But the “best” teams do seem to have a strong will to win and the ability to make the big plays when they count the most. I’m just a d…head neanderthal and may know nothing but I believe that’s one difference between the teams that are still playing and the ones that aren’t.

like the team but hate the fans. and not all the fans. only thing worse than a sore loser is a bad winner. i dont know what you’re reading or where you’re getting it from. i wouldnt trade our fans for 6 rings or 50.

A small story to steelcurtain2
I looked around that stadium and I seen some yellow shit in the distance…What could it be? It was the “Terrible” towel…What the hell is it doing here?? OH Well not a big deal cause we’ll kick their ass…LOL and we did!! So on the way out I found one of them “Terrible” towels…“I think I have a booger in my noose”…so i blow my snot all over that “Terrible” towel and stuck it in my back pocket…not a big deal cause we kicked their ass!! I got home and found that “Terrible” towel in my back pocket….MAN!!! I reallly GOTTA GO!!! So I did the deed and can you believe it…NO TP!!! I looked around and what did I find…You wouldnt believe it…the “Terrible” towel. We all know what happened then…so after that was done, I stood up and damn can you believe it again, I had drank too much….sooooo….I pissed all over that piece of shit “Terrible” Towel!!!! And guess what…As I watched it swirl down…I thought to myself how it looks exactly like it does brand new..Snotty…Shitty…and exactly like Piss…not to mention DIRTY!!!

Tony, Tony, Tony ...................
Well I believe I did start my above description of some Titan folks’ postings as “reacting with expletives”, but I didn’t anticipate “expletive filled bathroom humor stories”. The only opportunity you missed was to work in something that involved some dip and a spit cup. I don’t have the memory that I used to but I pretty clearly remember that when the Titans beat the Steelers the “bad winner” label could have been very appropriately applied to many Titan fans comments. In fact I specifically remember something about “Neanderthal Steeler fans and their rainbow-haired wives”.
It’s really not as important to me as it seems to be to you but the fact is that the Steelers are the 2008 AFC Champions, they’ve won 5 Super Bowls in 6 trips and they’re going again. HELL YEAH!

Steelcurtain2...
You, my friend, are an idiot. Stay on your side of the steelcurtain. Better yet, hope that it slams down on you head.
Hurray for the Steelers for beating the Ravens. We’ve also done that. We also kicked your team’s @ss, and we would have done it again. You were lucky with that interception and you know it.
Do me a favor – don’t troll this board unless you are also ready to come over when you lose.

And you, my friend, are not an idiot
If the Steelers lose I’ll still be on over. Even though it’s a pretty rough crowd and I don’t think most of you use logic as much as emotion, you’re still fun to talk to. As a Tennessean and potential Titans fan, it’s actually been a good education into the mindset of the Titan faithful.
But rather than “lucky” I’d call that Polamalu pick a matter of stepping up and making a big play when it was needed. Just like the hit on McGahee and the other pick that followed. I know you don’t want to hear it again but that’s why the Steelers and Ravens were playing on Sunday and your team wasn’t. Your guys simply didn’t make the big plays when they were needed and choked up at least 4 times in the Ravens game.
Do you think more people will remember that the Titans beat the Ravens and the Steelers during the season or that the Ravens and Steelers played in a heavyweight grudge match for the AFC championship and the Steelers won?

I beg to differ
We made all the plays we needed to make when we played the Ravens. Some random breaks went the Ravens’ way:
- Crumpler fumbling for the first time since 2005
- Lendale fumbling for the first time in 200 carries
- Bironas with a rare missed FG
Those events have a large amount of randomness. When you basically statistically double your opponent like we did you probably win that game 95 out of 100 times, if not more. We were victimized by chance, which is a fact of life. We’re not feeling sorry for ourselves, at the same time we don’t accept that we didn’t dominate that game.
- 3rd and 2 with the game on the line… Play clock runs out and the call is missed. That play alone probably cost us OT.
- Ravens ordering a hit on CJ… It was obvious by the way they were twisting him and pushing on his neck after the whistle that the Ravens strategy was to cause an injury.
Are we crying foul? No, but in 16 games this season CJ did not get hurt. 999 out of 1000 times the ref probably doesn’t allow a play to go off 2 seconds after the play clock expires. We did not lose because we played or planned poorly; we did not lose because they were the better team; and they did not win because they deserved to win, they won because sometimes statistical aberrations determine the outcomes of sporting events.
We all know this, whether we admit it or not. I am pretty sure that the Ravens loss to the Steelers does not even sting them that much, because all the Ravens fans know that they were playing on borrowed time. You can win games sometimes by having a disproportionate number of breaks fall your way… but you can’t win a SuperBowl that way, and anyone who thinks the Ravens had the team to do it is deluded.
Classic post game line by Beans Carter: “Hey Hines, go fuck yourself, you irritating, cheap-ass, dirty, over-exuberant cockjockey Hines Ward is da bomb; he lays more chicks than Mother Goose!”

Exactly what are you trying to say here Hal?
Jimmy,
Since an emphatic form of the “go away” message has been broadcast again I’ll do so. But I do think some of your guys might benefit from an “anger management and southern hospitality” blog. See you in Tampa.

How refreshing .............
Good analysis Beans. I’m just a lowly Steeler fan but this kind of stuff (except for that last Classic) makes a lot more sense to me than a bunch of f*** bombs. Maybe your guys will be able to make a run next season before Kiffin whips the Vols into shape to dominate the NCAA and steal the limelight.

I went to The Curtain and here's what I found .....
A Titan fan named Oden1 actually started (not just posted on) a thread on The Curtain.
A number of other Titans fans like Beans, Jimmy, Gramsey, Francisco were very active on at least one thread – the infamous Towel incident.
So what’s up with the big “go away d***h***, you have your own blog” strategy that you all (how’s that for Tennessee talk) keep pulling out of the hat when you’re unhappy?
by steelcurtain2 on Jan 20, 2009 8:01 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
in fairness...
the towel incident involved the Titans and the Steelers. It’s not insane that we might debate the matter.
You came here to brag about your victory over the Ravens.
I just don’t see what you get out of it, but as far as I’m concerned you’re welcome to keep posting.
by BeansCarter on Jan 20, 2009 8:42 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I like fairness ...
I honestly didn’t come to your blogs to brag about beating the Ravens. I actually found you guys by accident the day after the Titans/Steelers game while trying to research those (particularly Bulluck) responsible for the Steeler towel abuse. When I arrived I found a great deal of Steeler bashing going on and this was very annoying to me so I began posting some statistics about the Steelers. This brought on a number of profanity-laced tirades and “just go away” missives. Most of the stuff I’ve read, a lot of which was directed to me and one or two Raven fans, seemed to be much more emotional ranting than factual dialog like your above “I beg to differ” post. Even though I live in East Tn and am fond of UT football, at this point I’m a lot less likely to ever become a Titans fan as a result of what I’ve seen and heard. I honestly don’t think most of you/them could care one bit and that’s OK. But the discussions I saw on the Steel Curtain blog didn’t have anything near the highly angry tone I’ve generally received here. I must admit I threw some gas on the fire from time to time but the people were generally so abrasive and it was so easy to annoy them that I could hardly resist. So there you have it. I’ll try to just focus on Tampa and stay out of your space but unwarranted comments like “go the fuck away you mouth breathing, knuckle dragging retard” tend to prod me into firing back. It’s sort of off topic but have you ever thought about the fact that a silver back gorilla is a knuckle dragging retard? Wonder if anyone would ever say that to his face? :)

no time for false modesty...
i’ve been to your glass house…be careful how many stones you throw. last time i heard that many f-bombs was watching roseanne barr at zany’s.
in all fairness, you guys have some of the best articles i’ve read in the blogs. there are some very smart x’s and o’s people, but the rest of the rabble seems like they are in a race for the bottom…and you’re the #1 seed.
by stetix01 on Jan 22, 2009 8:49 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Bulluck is the man ..........
Darn, I was trying to misspell it on purpose.
Speaking of the Titans, do any of you think that Collins might be just the kind of mentor VY needs? If I’m remembering correctly, Kerry had some “leadership” issues of his own back in the bad old days and looked like he wasn’t going to make it for awhile.
I haven’t read that much stuff on the Steel Curtain blog, but it generally seems to me that the “I can say what I want and you can’t see me, hit me, or tell my wife or pastor about me” environment tends to bring out the Neanderthal side of all of us. Add in a few brewskis or some Jack Black and who knows what might happen?
