What Happens Now?
So I am trying not to think about the game anymore, and look to the future. I hate that we have lost the first game of the playoffs, have a long offseason, several key people up for contract and one of the last picks for the draft.
What should we do in the offseason? Do we resign KC and promise another starting year for him, go with VY, or find another QB? Look for a receiver? Release Haynesworth? Just curious what people think...

i think
this was our year, everything was in line for us to win this year, but refs we cannot control, penalties we can, and that ultimately was the reason we are talking offseason already. I think kerry leaves for detroit or san fran, big al goes to dallas, scaife leaves to a sub par team like jacksonville or maybe green bay, and titans go NT in the first round and we draft a wideout maybe 2nd or 3rd round

we probably lose at least one coordinator
most likely schwartz. KC is unlikely to return unless the titans declare him “the guy”. scaife probably gets over paid and leaves. keeping albert is 50-50.
when we played our best this season no one could have beaten us and we wasted it. who knows where we go from here. this burns me too bad to even care for a while.

It's all about VY...
Kerry Collins did a great job on two fronts:
(1) He calmed the team down after all of the controversy surrounding VY and led the team. It’s amazing how quickly all of the VY stories died out from a news cycle perspective. Credit to Jeff Fisher as well and the rest of the team for moving on from that.
(2) He minimized mistakes and executed the offense well. Really couldn’t ask for anything more…the Defense was awesome, you needed someone to come in and not get in the D’s way.
However, now that the season’s over and the offseason begins, it’s hard for me to imagine the Coaching Staff looking at Collins’ performance and saying, “we can’t do better than that – let’s make him the Starter next season”. If VY can’t meet or exceed Collins’ performance this year, then he’s got to go. I would think, though, that the Coaching Staff believes he can.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Simms. In any case, we’ll need a quality backup. Whether Simms believes he can start elsewhere will be something to watch out for.
Receivers/Tight Ends? Also something to look out for…based on this offense, do we see a “true” #1 receiver wanting to come to the Titans?
I guess we’ll all stay tuned to see what unfolds…

its sad how teams chane so fast year to year..gotta enjoy the moment. collins did great all season and today. he moved the ball well. not his fault at all.

i actually think we keep cocktail collins one, maybe two more seasons
and draft a guy this year and give him a year or two to learn under a cagey vet. this is a very deep qb draft, and we need to take advantage of that. Vince Young is done for, at least with this franchise.

What's that?
A Titans fan actually awknowledging that VY is not the future?
Collins will probably go to Detroit or some shithole unless the Titans offer him starter money and garuantee him the starter’s job.
If Fat Albert goes, then you’ll probably draft a NT first round, or would it be quarterback? Then receiver and whatever else your needs are in the following rounds.
Personally I hope you just keep Young under centre :)

Coaching Staff
I see a good deal of discussion of Vince being the “Backup QB”. He definitely was for this season – I can’t imagine Fisher and Dinger thinking that Collins is the starter going into next season. He wasn’t the starter going into this season. My opinion is they basically put Vince on ice after he was healthy. There’s more to what happened at the beginning of the year than the team is discussing, and they handled it quietly without fanfare. They could afford to do that since Kerry played so well.
But I gotta believe Vince is the starter going into Camp this year.

Off the top thoughts
1. Can the team afford to have a high priced back-up QB (Vince) and give Collins the kind of money he will want? No way both are on the team next year.
2. Mawae is released because Harris is ready…and cheaper.
3. McCarins is gone. His pouting act in the 4th quarter burnt his bridge.
4. Harper is gone. Flacco threw seldom to Finnegan’s side. Money for a free agent might be spent for his replacement.
5. If Albert’s demands are too high, he is gone. Washburn is too good at drafting and developing linemen to break the bank on one guy.

1. yes, we CAN, we have tons of cap space, not sure if we will. the pats are about to pay franchise tag cassell, and already pay brady about that much.
2. harris made crucial mistakes, mawae is on his 3rd all-pro team. lets not get carried away by a guy who has started exactly twice. i bet it’s more likely he competes for a guard spot.
3. praise any and all deities you can think of
4. harper has been banged up, but he’s not exactly youthful at this point. that raiders corner with the crazy name is a free agent this offseason…if the titans want to make a big splash he would make our secondary impenetrable.
5. we have developed albert into the best at his position. shame to let that leave. i doubt his demands will be totally unreasonable.

My thoughts
1. Can’t say for sure that Big Al is gone. we could resign him
2. Unless Collins asks for too much I think he’s back as a Titan next year. I think he realizes that he’s not going to be a starter anywhere else. Which is why he said it’s either start somewhere or retire. I’m not a huge fan of Collins, but he does what we need a QB to do. For now anyway.
3. I think anyone who says “this was our year” if forgetting about how young our team is. Bullock, Thornton, Hope and Kearse are the only real older guys. I think Thornton & Hope are here for a few more years. Bullock’s got at least 2 or 3 more years in him. Kearse has at least another year, but we’ve got good depth behind him.
4. Mawae will be back next year unless he retires.
5. Harper will be back next year, but we need to draft or sign someone to compete with him in camp (or maybe King/Carr/Williams will beat him out)
6. CJ + whole offseason under his belt to get better = wow
7. We need to draft 1 more offensive playmaker (as long as we resign big AL)

Good point on #3
Hopefully we can have a great run of sustained success like the Colts. Our front office and coaching staff has a similar, excellent make up. The obvious, glaring hole in that comparison is that they had a HOF QB for their run whereas we have….well I’m not sure anyone knows what we have for the near and long term under center

I see
I see Collins and Big Al taking “much more than they are worth” contracts else where. Hopefully we will bring a great free agenct WR and Vince starts again. Or prehaps we draft someone and let there be a compentition at training camp.
