Tennessee Titans Morning Links: 'Didn't We Win Yesterday?' Edition.
Ladies and gentlemen, before we dive into the controversies, lets acknowledge your AFC South leading Tennessee Titans!
Let the bashing of VY begin (more deserved than usual this time): David Climer. Paul Kuharsky. Joe Biddle. Yahoo!. City Paper. Terry McCormick. AOL Fanhouse. Mike Florio (who breaks his own record for jumping the gun with this headline).
I'm not even going to complain, because there's not a lot one can say in defense.
Here's the the NFL.com Wire Report speculating that the Titans think VY has a torn MCL.
In lighter news, there will be no happy QBs in Finnegan's Wake! (High fives self for James Joyce/Lit. major joke.) Also, here's a quick note for everyone who wants to give Kerry all the credit for Bo Scaife's big play:
"I've run that play since I was a little boy and it's never been that open," Scaife said.
MCM could not confirm that Collins was also blocking defenders down field on this play.
No matter who is playing QB, all eyes should be on Crazy Legs, the first true playmaker on either side of the ball for the Titans since... well we'll that first playmaker tell you about it:
"He's got the supporting cast, it's not like he's got to come in and carry all the weight on his shoulders," Kearse said of Johnson, drafted with the 24th pick in the first round. "Just like when I came in my first year, I didn't feel like all the stress was on me to do everything, I was able to just be comfortable, just go out and make plays, be that missing piece. So far that's what it's looking like...
Stephanie Stradley wrote an anti-VY piece for AOL Fanhouse? Shocking. Houston fans are more delighted than Joy Kat this morning I'm sure...

Some Thoughts:
First of all — a win is a win, and I’m excited about this big win over a division rival to open up the season. The game went pretty much the way we all thought it would — a close defensive struggle, with the Titans coming out on top.
Chris Johnson — wow, this guy is going to be a stud, I only wish I would have started him in my Fantasy League. Him, along with my man Forte both went off yesterday and had huge NFL debuts, and Chris Johnson looks to be our primary offensive weapon by far.
Our Recievers — before I move on to VY, this is a real issue for our football team. Some of the blame can be put on the QB, but how many times did we hear the announcers say “None of the Titans recievers have that ‘second gear’” — which is true. They may have decent hands, but none of them seem to be able to break away from the defenders in man coverage, or fight the right spot to be in during a zone. If we are going to be a real contendor in the AFC (which is entirely possible with the Patriots losing Brady, and the performance the Colts and the Chargers put on last night) — we will have to address the recieving issue in some way.
The defense: Hell of a show put on by these guys — they really didn’t allow anything with the only TD coming from the Jags starting on our 5 yard line. They were agressive and put pressure on the QB all day long — we will have to lean on them a lot this year and I hope they can continue dominating as the season progresses.
And lastly — the issue at QB: Is it just me, or am I the only one NOT worried about VY being out for a few weeks? I could go off on a tangent here but I will try to keep it short. I like the guy and have been a fan since the Titans drafted him, but he seems to have lost that “will to win” like we saw in that magical rookie year. On top of that, he just isn’t making the throws. I am NOT in any way arguing that Collins is a better QB, but why is it that he is able to find open recievers as soon as he comes in off the bench, and Young can’t seem to read a defense to save his life. I’m interested to hear some other thoughts on this, but with each game and each dramatic injury I seem to lose a little more faith in him. I think Collins will be able to step in and lead this team to victory over the next few weeks, and no, I don’t think our gameplan will change that much with him at the helm.
At any rate, great win, hard fought game, and #1 in the AFC South — rock on!

On the Collins Pass to Scaife
We got away with one. Roos false started on that play.
If I hit a hole-in-one on this grand slam the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

FWIW
Gee, I think Jimmy was a little harsher on VY than I was. Heck, Bullock was harsher than me. If I were writing an “anti-VY” piece, I could have been much more mean. It’s news. Your blog is writing about it, everybody is writing about it. An allegation of a quarterback quitting on a team is HUGE news.
If you don’t want me to write any mean things about VY, tell him to stop doing stupid stuff that is news.

Stehpanie Stradley? Is that you?
If so you know I’m talking about the fact that every piece you write on VY is in the negative, not that this isn’t news worthy. I said so in the comments for your article.
Michael Roos doesn't eat pitas because NOTHING BREAKS THE POCKET ON HIS WATCH!!!

Well, yeah, if you put the "p" in front of the "h"
And as I said, there are other people at FH who write negatory things about VY too. As I said, if he stops doing stupid stuff, people won’t write negative things about him. Heck, I say negative things about the Texans too. I guess I am just a big meanie. :)
