Adam Schefter Reports Titans Think Vince Young Has a Torn MCL

Schefter is reporting that the Titans think Vince Young tore his MCL.  I am not really sure what that means.  He is expected to have an MRI tomorrow.  We will just have to wait and see what the MRI reveals.

Now it gets interesting.  PFT is reporting that the Titans have contacted Chris Simms.  If the Titans don't have confidence that Ingle Martin, who is on the practice squad, can step in if Kerry Collins were to go down, they absolutely have to bring in another quarterback.  Simms is probably the best guy available, but I would also put a call in to Daunte Culpepper to see how serious he is about retirement.  They obviously cannot go into a game with only Collins on the active roster.

How much does this hurt the Titans?  It is too early to tell, and I don't feel like having that argument right now.  One thing is for sure, the AFC got a lot more wide open today if Tom Brady really did tear his ACL.  The Titans don't rely on VY as much as the Patriots rely on Brady.  Collins is fully capable of managing the offense and leaving the game in the hands of Chris Johnson, LenDale White, and the defense.

other injuries

griffin seperated his shoulder and will play with a harness…

Albert had a concussion and can’t remember the game….

it’s too bad none of our WR’s got hurt….

Haynsworth made the gamewinning sack while concussed?

I can’t decide if that’s impressive or stupid.

Stupid. That can turn into a career-ender if not managed correctly.

No daunte

I’d rather see what Ingle Martin can do if Kerry needs relief, but they need to pick up a third qb regardless. Kerry is a good passer, but he’s a statue, and is going to take some hits. Who else is out there? Isn’t Joey Harrington also floating around?

I feel a lot better about Big Al missing a game or two after seeing Jones play with a shoulder injury. That’s looking like a very good draft pick as well.

Actually, that's not nearly as true this season.

K. Collins is down about 15 pounds and is far more mobile than he has ever been in hiss career. He understands that Heimerdinger’s Offense requires a degree of mobility, and like a true professional, he did the work during the off-season to get where he needed to be. Seriously, go re-watch some of the pre-season games. Kerry’s no VY, but he’s also not the Statue of old, either. I expect he’ll play very well in relief of VY this time out.

That said, I’m not looking to replace VY with Collins. I am, however, more than curious to see what Collins can do with an extended period leading the First Team. Letting another guy run the team is an acid-test for where VY is in his development.

Jimmy...

where did you see this article?

We will have to see about that, and this is not the way I want it to happen.

I never want a player to be injured no matter which team they are on. I want Collins to start on his own merits of being a good QB.

If Collins plays well, it could be hard for VY to get back his job.

Don’t kid yourself. This is a real opportunity for Kerry.

climer has a big story about VY not going back on the field

the vince soap opera is going to be in full swing this year…..

OH SHIT.

I’m freaking out, and not in the good “watching Jevon Kearse” way.

I really really hope this is one of those times that Mike Florio is wrong, although he quotes Adam Schefter, who is usually somewhat more reliable.

Daunte Culpepper is a good choice, Simms is not.

Simms was never a real consistent QB. Kerry Collins is definitely better than just a game manager. He is intelligent, knows the plays and has played reasonably well in the pre-season. K.C. also stepped in today when VY was hurt and did his job.

Daunte

is out of gas and has said as much himself – i’d rather see simms or harrington. but really i’d rather see ingle if kerry needs help. but hopefully vince isn’t out for long. If NE is looking at brady out all season, they are going to go after simms or harrington if they grab another – i bet you don’t see them taking a look at daunte and that’s for good reason.

Terrible?? How would you rank VY in preseason then?

KC had one bad outing, other than that he played decent.

by Joy Kat on Sep 7, 2008 10:04 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Collins preseason

17-46/295/1/1 That’s 37% completion percentage.

VY was terrible in the preseason as well. That is not what we are arguing. Why don’t you just admit you are biased?

also collins has been a turnover machine his whole career

he throws a ton of INT’s……no reason to think now will be any different….

I will absolutely admit that I am biased towards Collins

I don’t think I could ever dispute that. However I still contend that he played ok (not stellar) in two of his 3 preseason games. I was very disappointed in his play against Atlanta. However drops were also part of the reason his numbers were low. The receivers didn’t just drop the ball for VY.

It's a good test. Everybody, just lay back and enjoy it. Really, what are your choices?

I hope VY is okay, and I think he can be a good QB. But I think K. Collins can have a really good run as a starter for 4-6 weeks. He has lost a lot of weight and picked up some speed, is thoroughly comfortable in the Offense, and has GOT to be super-hungry to prove he can still play the game at that level.

Pre-season is OVER. Give the man a chance. Until VY is back, Kerry’s your starter, and that’s a HELL of a lot better than some of the alternatives.

So, in other news, the Bears just kicked the crap out of the Colts on Sunday Night Football.

29-13, and in all honesty, it felt worse than that if you watched it. The Colts got completely wrecked.

And In Still More Other News

The Titans are Ranked 1st in the AFC South.

If I hit a hole-in-one on this grand slam the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

Merril Hodge

STILL is crapping all over Vince Young. He’s so annoying.

It's a team game. Hoge said good things about C. Johnson, and the D played great.

It’s enough with Vince. Let’s talk about something else.
