Around SBN: VIDEO: Austin Rivers' Buzzer Beater Finishes Off UNC

Tennessee Titans 17 Jacksonville Jaguars 10: Quick Recap

That was pretty much what we expected.  The Titans defense was awesome only allowing the Jaguars to rush for 33 yards.   Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew carried 14 times for 31 yards.  The defense sacked David Garrard 7 times, and Cortland Finnegan picked him off twice.  The only TD they allowed came off of a Vince Young interception that gave the Jags the ball at the Titans 5 yard line.

The offense was pretty much what we expected as well.  Chris Johnson proved he is going to be a special player with 15 carries for 93 yards and 3 catches for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Vince Young ended the day 12 of 22 for 110 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs.  He threw the ball better than 12 for 22, but the receivers were terrible once again.

Bo Scaife had a huge day with 6 catches for 105 yards including a 44 yard catch and run on a screen that set up LenDale White's TD run.

VY did leave the game wtih a knee injury that we will have to wait and see how bad it is.  Kerry Collins came off the bench and did what he was paid to do.  It is very valuable to have a guy like Collins on the roster for just that situation.  He is a quality BACKUP quarterback.

Enjoy the win.  We will have a whole lot more to come about this game in the coming days.

GO TITANS!!

Our defense was awesome

The Thick and the Quick carried our offense.

Go Titans!

Screw Jacksonville

As long as VY contributes his share of plays, this is a very strong team.

However, of major concern is the mediocrity of Justin McCareins. Even though I expected him to be garbage heading into the season, it would be nice if the Titans would at least entertain pursuing Anquan Boldin. If not, get ready for Scaife and Crumpler all year long, which admittedly isn’t a bad thing.

Actually, I think that’s definately a bad thing.

Beating the Jags today gets the whole season started off right.

Good job Titans. Player of the game is definitely Chris Johnson.

Yeah

Hopefully Vince is ok, just a freak deal landing.

Chris Johnson

was even better than I expected and I expected alot. I wondered about Lendale early but the round mound stepped up and had some good carries when we needed them. Watch out NFL for the 1-2 punch!

Just Think

CJ played awesome against the Jag’s.. a team who’s Run D is probably going to be in the top 5 or 6..

I’m excited to see him next week against Cinny

Collins>Young

As a passer, which is what I want my QB to do.

by furrycolt on Sep 7, 2008 4:53 PM CDT reply actions

Wrong!

Since joining TN: 11 games. 4 starts. 1 TD. 6 INTs.

Not better.

Someone had to win

Just glad the “Jags are going to the superbowl” cries have subsided. it was a game where both should of lost. also, way to put collins in to get the win

That's called a good defensive game

I am not sure if yall know, but there is a Colts blog on this network. I even provided a link. Why don’t yall just stay over there and talk about how every team in the NFL stinks besides the Colts. We will stay here and talk about our win.

Umm.. Chicago pretty much handled the Colts last night.

And TN can do EVERYTHING Chicago does, but do it better.

The Titans are now in SOLE POSSESSION of the AFC South lead.

Garrard

My favorite post game comment was Garrard saying that he hasn’t been this sore in a long time

Thanks for putting the word backup in all caps for me Jimmy, and here I was thinking

that you might possibly want K.C. as the starter. How silly of me.
Way to go Kerry and Company, you did a great job. C.J. is the bomb. KVB Rocks, just like he did at Nebraska. Awesome !

my thoughts on the game

—our WR’s are terrible…..horrible…pathetic….slow…can’t catch…can’t get seperation…..we’d be better off with rb’s and te’s lining up wide

—our special teams are horrible…..bad field position all day

—finnegan played awesome….i’m telling you, best CB in titans/oilers history

—dline was great…..even with haynesworth out, who played with a concussion

—thornton was the star of the LB’s

—freak was invisible and was easily handled with 1 man

—chris johnson is going to save our offseason….

—our wr’s suck, have I mentioned that….vince’s 2 int’s were bad, but beyond that, i thought he threw well….

—look for chris simms to get a phone call

by zackmann on Sep 7, 2008 8:32 PM CDT reply actions

yeah!!!!!

way to start the year with a big win against the jags. it was killing me how much love the jags were getting preseason and how everyone was bagging on the titans. the jags are a very good team, and i hope this win gets us some of the respect that we deserve.
-chris johnson is as good as advertised, and the d is even better.
-vy looked bad and i continue to be confused as to why he doesn’t run more. he needs to get his act together mentally. too much pouting and little to no leadership
-the tackling and special teams coverage needs to get a lot better
-bo scaife looked as fast as our wide outs…not a good thing
hopefully the bears can pull off a mini upset and the perfect football weekend will be complete.

with young out 2-4 we should call daunte

i’m not comfortable with kerry collins at qb as the starter….

who should we call?

simms?
ingle?
mcnair? haha

I think we should give Daunte a call….

by zackmann on Sep 7, 2008 8:47 PM CDT reply actions

There’ll be competition for simms. NBC said that the Pats have already come calling. And really, if the choice is between throwing to J. Gage or R. Moss, who would you pick?

by rob m. on Sep 7, 2008 9:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I couldn't find a link anywhere

Only that they will give him the business tomorrow.

And he will get some helmet-throwing-target-practice.

Sorry, had to.

by gramsey712 on Sep 7, 2008 9:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe. I can’t see him starting immediately over Collins. Collins at least knows the offense.

by rob m. on Sep 7, 2008 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Must be funny to be Chris Simms, being so popular all of a sudden.

Go Titans!

Glad we got the win today, I hope VY is okay. I LOVE our defense! Too bad our receivers suck…

by hartley on Sep 7, 2008 9:40 PM CDT reply actions

Defense wins

Defense & a strong run game can beat pretty much anyone. Great game I thought, besides Young going down. I’m so excited to see what else Johnson can do! Go Titans!!

by gzablue on Sep 8, 2008 12:02 AM CDT reply actions

The best thing about this game, by far, was the fact that the D was dominant...

…even when Big Albert was out. We’ve all kind of bagged on the pick of Jason Jones in the 2nd, me included and just last week, but he played very well today. What a difference from a year ago, when the D couldn’t stop ANYBODY without Albert on the field. K. Vickerson played well, too. How was R. Starks in Miami? I doubt we’ll miss that guy—at all.

GO Titans! Offense still needs some work, but man oh man, is it ever good to have a quality back-up QB. It’ll be interesting to see what the new, faster, more mobile K. Collins can do with this Offense. A legitimate test of exactly what we have with the O and with VY in general.
