Vikings fans are stupid.
For some odd reason, I decided to take a look at what fans on the Vikings blog "daily norseman" were saying about our undefeated team. Get ready.
"All I heard today on the National ESPN broadcast was how great Tennessee is--How great their defense is--How they have stars at each position--how theyre the the 2nd best team behind Dallas--damn after three games they beat Jacksonville 17-10, beat Cincinnati 24-7, and beat Houston 31-12--not exactly a world class schedule to say theyre the best out there---The defense is very good I will give them that--Kyle Vanden Bouch--and Albert Haynesworth make them that way--but the offense?? These guys will be lucky to rush for any where near 50 yards--if that comes true and Collins is forced to pass itll be like last week against Carolina--sack city--The Purple's offense is going to have the best ground attack that these guys will face all year long which will open it up even more for Gus for even a bigger day. Vikings go 2-2 and leave the Titans with their first loss of the season 31-10."
I love it that people have so instantly discredited the jaguars who just beat the colts IN Indianapolis. Oh wait, the Vikings lost to Indy at home two weeks ago- my bad? "The purple's offense is going to have the best ground attack that these guys will face all year" - Listen bud .. AP is a star, but have you heard anything about the Titan's run defense - apart from "Vanden Bouch" (moron) ... besides, anybody could put up numbers on Indy's defense, let alone without Bob Sanders... Well fellow Titan fans - I am fueled up and ready - Ho Ho, Gus Frerotte- your fans are talking shit about Kerry Collins .. like a pack of retarded hyenas who try to attack a Lion .. or in our case - a flaming thumb tac - prepare for the longest day of your life Mr. Frerotte - if Matt Schaub calls you in the next few days, my advice is not to pick it up.

Did you expect them to say they think they're gonna lose?
I kinda like them thinking they are gonna pound us. It will be that much more fun to read their reactions after they go home with their horns between their legs.

WHAT!!!! WHAT!!!!!!!! HAHA
You sure do have alot of faith in your team. I’d be too much of vikings’ fan to say confidently that we have a better starter at every position but i don’t want u to rave about packs of retards or flaming thumb tacks!!! —lol This is too funny. It’ll be a tough game for us on the road but it’ll be pretty hard for your passin game to open up with no run game at all!!! That right there just decided the game. --I’m sorry we’re gonna hand u your first loss and by the way THATS MY QUOTE FROM MY BLOG! but plain and simple… 3-1… its coming.

Glad to see you think so highly of us.
So far, the teams you’ve faced are placing 26th, 28th, and 29th in total scoring offense. I know it’s week 3, but really, that doesn’t say much for the amount of points these teams are putting up.
And no, the Vikings do not have a powerhouse offense (ranked 23rd in points scored), but we do have a defense that’s gone up against significantly better teams (Green Bay, Carolina, and Indianapolis) and performed well against all of them.
Yes, we did lose to Indy two weeks ago. Mainly because we didn’t call any pass plays in the game. We added pass plays into the mix and hey! We can actually score a touchdown! Funny that.
And, really, who do you think you’re going to face later this year that has a better run offense than the Vikings? Our running game is currently ranked 5th in the league, and this is when opponents regularly stack eight men in the box. And when AD isn’t on the field, Chester Taylor is, and that’s not really making matters much easier.
Glad to hear you’re fueled up, but I’d really suggest you don’t start drinking this early in the week. I haven’t seen any smack talk about Collins’ ability, and I don’t expect to. I’d expect smack talk about VY, but that’s because he’s a head case. The smack talk was relating to how much he’s going to get sacked, and that’s more a product of our front four against your O-line. So far, the only way to avoid it has been to roll out regularly, and I don’t think Collins has that kind of mobility.
This isn’t going to be a high-scoring game, and you know it. I’ll be surprised if either team scores above twenty points. This is going to be a matter of who’s defense wears out first. I’m betting it’ll be yours, but that’s because I’m a homer.
Looking forward to watching you cry in your beer,
- RR

Our O-line
is better than any O-line you have faced thus far and I expect Heimerdinger will be ready for whatever your defense has to offer. I am not going to argue with you tho. I’ll let the Titans speak for themselves on Sunday

No joke; their scoring rank is lowered BECAUSE we've played them...
I guess these guys missed us being the most efficient defense in the league last year, and the secondary getting better this year!

Well, they’ve got about a third to do with your defense.
Look at how much they scored against your team, and then how much they scored against other teams. Then compare. Now granted, the Titans have given up less points on average than any other team in the league, I’m just saying the teams aren’t really that strong offensively in the first place. Cincy used to be, but I’ve got no idea what happened there. Probably too much locker room cancer.

You're being ridiculous
So far, the teams you’ve faced are placing 26th, 28th, and 29th in total scoring offense. I know it’s week 3, but really, that doesn’t say much for the amount of points these teams are putting up.
The teams are 26th, 28th, and 29th in total scoring offense largely because they couldn’t put up points against us. The Texans have played half their season so far against us. The other two teams have played a third of their seasons against us.
If we hadn’t held Jacksonville to 33 yards rushing in Week #1, they’d probably qualify as a comparable run offense. Last year they were second in rushing in the NFL. Don’t suggest that we can’t stop the run. We can.
… The smack talk was relating to how much he’s going to get sacked, and that’s more a product of our front four against your O-line. So far, the only way to avoid it has been to roll out regularly, and I don’t think Collins has that kind of mobility.
Our O-line is rock solid. Through three games they have given up 2 sacks, one on VY, and one on KC.
This isn’t going to be a high-scoring game, and you know it. I’ll be surprised if either team scores above twenty points. This is going to be a matter of who’s defense wears out first. I’m betting it’ll be yours, but that’s because I’m a homer.

I forgot about the Texans missing a game, but that shouldn’t stop them from scoring in their other game.
If we hadn’t held Jacksonville to 33 yards rushing in Week #1, they’d probably qualify as a comparable run offense. Last year they were second in rushing in the NFL. Don’t suggest that we can’t stop the run. We can.
Over the past two weeks, Jacksonville has averaged over 150 yards a game, so that’s impressive. I wasn’t saying that you weren’t able to defend the run, I was saying that you wouldn’t see a better rushing offense this year. And while Jacksonville was second last year, we were first, and you don’t have the luxury of playing our offense twice a year to prepare for it.
Our O-line is rock solid. Through three games they have given up 2 sacks, one on VY, and one on KC.
One to the Jags, which is impressive, and another to either the Texans or the Bengals, who aren’t really known as sacking teams.
I think you misspelled homo.

smack talk!
love it! continue!
i haven’t watched the vikes much but it sounds like their current incarnation is jags/titans like – run it and stop run are the strengths. should be a bruising game. i think the titans have a lot more experience at fisherball, though, which sounds like what the vikes are trying to play this year. my money would be on titans even if i was neutral (which i isn’t).

Stats
The teams we’ve played so far have low offensive rankings because of the defenses they’ve played so take a look at this….
Jags – Titans D 3rd, Buffalos D 5th, Colts D 22nd (and they won this one)
Bengals – Ravens D 1st, Titans D 3rd, Giants D 6th
Texans – Steelers D 2nd, Titans D 3rd
Maybe just maybe that’s why the teams we’ve played have looked so bad offensively.

Defensive Ratings...
I think it’s stupid to put such stock in team defense ratings this early in the season with such a small sample size. I think around week 9 we can start to use them as a reference.
I’m a Vikings fan but love your guys’ team partially because we’re quite similar, partially because I really like Keith Bulluck. I think this will be an entertaining, hard-nosed game and like I said before on some other thread, if both teams escape with no major injuries it will be a small miracle.
I’m very excited to see how the Vikings run defense does against Chris Johnson because I think we’ll see far more of him as I firmly believe we can handle LenDale White when he’s anywhere but inside the 3 yard line.

Hopefully Scaife or Crumpler lead the scoring and Finnegan and/or Griffin adding to
the total with a pick. Plus a turnover from Frerotte when KVB comes in and lowers the boom. I am looking forward to a fantastic game. Thankfully it will be broadcast in our area. This one should be fun !

Blast Away...
I’m really tired of hearing about how great Tennessee’s D from all the talking heads out there (and some of the commentors on this site.) Yes they’re good, but so are we. But let me set something straight: Tennessee, in no way, shape, or form is going to walk all over us this game, defensively or offensively. Because I’m most annoyed with the coverage their D is getting, and how they’re going to shut down our running game, let’s start there.
Titans rushing defense:
The rushing offenses the Titans have faced have totaled 848 yards this year. For us that number is 841 yards (essentially equal). The difference is that we’ve given up almost 20 yards less per game rushing than the Titans. What gives?
If we just look at rushing, they’ve played against the 13th, 24th, and 29th best rushing attacks. Of all those rankings, only Jacksonville’s 13th best rushing attack stands out as noteworthy. That’s also the closest game for Tennessee all year (a 17-10 win).
I think, at this point, it’s safe to say that AD + Chester > Fred and MJD.
According to the stats:
Through 3 games, AD + Chester = 421 yds, 85 carries, 4.95 ave.
For the other two, Fred and MJD = 325 yds, 80 carries, 4.06 ave.
Thus, we are the best rushing attack they have seen yet, and don’t be fooled into thinking that they have the second coming of Sam Adams and Tony Siragusa waiting for our boys.
Titans Pass defense:
Where Tennessee really excels is defending the pass (3rd in the NFL). So far this year they’ve only given up 454 yards through the air—all year. We’ve allowed 631 yards through the air (good for 20th.)
A little further analysis paints a slightly different picture, though.
If we look at the total passing yards of the three teams the Titans and the Vikings have faced this year, we discover that the Titans haven’t played many—if any—good passing attacks, while the Vikes have already faced two:
Titan’s opponents total passing = 1254 yards.
Viking’s opponents total passing = 2004 yards
Those numbers tell us, again, that the Vikings have faced much better overall passing attacks this year than the Titans have. So how did each team fair against the quality of passing they faced?
The Vikings allowed 680 of those 2004 cumulative passing yards, or 33.9% of the total.
The Titans, interestingly, allowed 537 of their opponents’ 1254 passing yards, or 42.8% of the total. So when viewed this way, while the Vikings have allowed more yards through air, they’ve been more effective at limiting the pass against better competition.
In the final analysis, Tennessee has a very solid defense, one which will, believe it or not, receive its greatest challenge of the season this Sunday. But to say that the Titan’s D is outstanding is to jump the gun prematurely. So far the only thing they’ve proven is that they have done what they should have done against inferior competition. How they would fare against a Green Bay or an Indy is anyone’s guess.
So far the numbers have shown that we’ve done an even better job defensively against much better competition than Tennessee, so don’t be swayed by the hype. Our defense is for real, and the Titans have more to worry about offensively this Sunday than we do.
by TheViking83 on Sep 25, 2008 10:50 AM CDT 0 recs
Interesting Approach
Peterson/Taylor vs Indy- 178 yards, 5.5/4.5 avg
Taylor/MJD vs Indy- 228 yards 5.6/4.7 avg
Taylor/MJD vs Tennessee- 31 yards 2.0/2.6 avg
Worry.
I guess you can skew the stats anyway you want to to make yourself feel better.
Maybe our opponents stats are so bad because we have a good defense?

See... the game's key match-ups are where the teams AREN'T even.
G. Ferrotte vs. C. Finnegan, N. Harper, C. Hope, and M. Griffin. And that right there is the clear mismatch of the game.

I am not worried, I look for a good battle
I get concerned when people start looking past opponents, and you start thinking about the next "good’ team your facing, then all of sudden you get complacent and are looking at a loss to an underwhelming team. That did not happen with the Texans last week I am happy to say and the Titans should be more than pumped to take on the Vikings this week and roll. This is the first time in almost 10 years that they have started out this well and will be determined to continue the success. I respect the Vikings but, I will be completely suprised if the Titans don’t win, and win by a good margin.
