Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Unchecked Aggression Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 I sure as hell hope Vince was watching this game closely from the coaches booth, because this was a microcosm of what it takes for a QB to last long enough to throw for 35,000 yards this league.  Congratulations to Kerry, who became only the 15th QB in NFL history to reach that mark!

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The Titans went Big Lebowski yesterday, drawing a line in the sand to stop the Texans' unchecked aggression on 4th down... "Across this line YOU DO NOT CROSS!"

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The Freak got a sack, Roos dominated 'Super' Mario, Andre Johnson must have been trying out for the Titans with all of those crucial drops and the Titans won convincingly.... just another Sunday in the AFC South.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Bud Adams is still a huge VY fan... that's a definitely a good guy to have on your side.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Mary Hoge is a small, petty shell of a man who should take a long look in the mirror before calling anyone else out (Storyaudio).  I don't believe for one second that the things he says about the Titans front office and Jeff Fisher are true. This twerp has extended is meritless career by tearing down Vince, and it belies a staggering level of mental weakness and poor upbringing to behave like he has.  The only bigger losers are his bosses who haven't explained to him how unprofessional his vendetta is... damn this was hard to type without cursing.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Who are these guys and what have they done with the Titans receivers?

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Kerry Collins has had to throw a grand total of 1 pass in the 4th quarter over the last two games combined.  That, my friends, is taking care of business.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Fist Bumps: Cortland Finnegan is the best CB in the history of the Titans, and as good as anyone in the league right now... if he keeps this up expect Defensive Player of the Year talk to heat-up.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Peter King slots the Titans at number 6 in his rankings, with the following comment:

6. Tennessee (3-0). Why do I have Tennessee 6 and Denver 7? Simple. The Broncos allowed 32 points Sunday. The Titans have allowed 29 this season.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 VY is trying to find ways to help bring some relief to his devastated hometown through his foundation.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Mike Florio may be starting to realize that accurate, thoughtful analysis and rumor mongering are two very different things.  One of these he excels at, the other not so much.

Email me at mcmaugustwest@gmail.com if you have any tips or want my expletive filled take on how much of a punk Mary Hoge is.

For the record

Fisher just called in to 104.5 and basically called Hoge a liar.

Also, VY lives in the Governor’s Club which is a lot more than 3 miles from the LP, in case you are wondering.

Wow. Fisher is not one easily provoked into calling a radio station impromptu like that

I’m not giving Hoge the benefit of the doubt that he misunderstood anything either. I think he’s a bold-face liar and makes a mockery of NFL analysis by still being employed.

I cannot imagine Fisher ever being that open with anybody in the media.

I just don’t buy it at all. He would NEVER do that—especially not to Hoge. I can’t seem to understand Hoge’s angle, either, because you had to know that that was gonna get denied forcefully. Honestly, he’s almost into Slander territory with that. The club could probably prove real damages.

Not that I necessarily think we’ll see VY in the booth any time soon. I tend to agree with PK: the club doesn’t want to put him out in front of the media yet and probably won’t for a good, long while.

About Peter King: He has the Titans 6th and then points out that they have either the #1 or #2 Defense (Baltimore also looks very good on D), and that all the teams ahead of the Titans have been suspect on D at times this year. He then completely ignores the fact that the Titans have both the NFL-leader in interceptions and the #2 man in the race (Finnegan and Griffin, respectively) in order to engage in the usual knob-slobbing of the usual suspects. He then calls the Colts one of the better teams in the NFL, nevermind that they are 1-2 and would be in complete disarray if not for a few critical drops by a few incompetent Vikings receivers, Manning’s brillance notwithstanding.

At five pages, that whole article was a huge, steaming pile of uselessness.

PK will pole jock the Colts/Manning, Pats, Favre, Romo and Seahawks (who now employe his daughter, btw) until the bitter end...

and count his paper while doing it…

Yeah

I used to like Peter King, but he obviously has something against the Titans. He goes far enough to rank us 6th, but then struggles to find something nice to say about us. He goes on to list the Defensive Players of the week but can’t even give Griffin or Finnegan an honorable mention.

Later in the article he talks about how shell shocked Schaub looked, but doesn’t mention that he looked that way because he’s terrified of the Titans defensive line.

by theologic on Sep 22, 2008 9:21 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

And Eric King looked good coming off the bench

We didn’t know why Harper was out, but we knew that King was ballin’.

And where was The Hawk? Anybody know? Still inactive?

by gramsey712 on Sep 22, 2008 9:56 AM CDT   0 recs

He was active

But I don’t think he ever made it on the field. Chris Davis did pretty good tho.

by theologic on Sep 22, 2008 10:22 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Hawk did see some time

I saw him on a punt team gunner in the second half. Don’t know about the first half as I wasn’t looking.

If I hit a hole-in-one on this grand slam the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

Adam, Pacman, whatever...

We’ve got Cortland Finnegan! Does anyone else realize this little 7th round draft pick from Samford has put any questions of us letting go of that convict to sleep? Furthermore, how about the performance by King #30 yesterday in place of Nick Harper ????

BEST DEFENSE IN THE NFL.

Bring on the Vikings – ESPN Projected Stats – Adrian Peterson 22 yds (actually my projections)

by Hentrich is my Homeboy on Sep 22, 2008 10:56 AM CDT   0 recs

Hopefully

Our defense will be better prepared for him then they were for Slaton.

Big difference between the Vikes and the Texans...

And that difference is the passing game. The Texans have a nicely balanced Offense. The Vikings do not. And that’s a critical difference in this game.

Plus, if the Colts can stop Peterson in the 2nd half and win the game, I think the Titans can, too. I mean, the Jags rushing attack MAULED them.

True

I definitly agree about the Vikes’ passing game. Although I didn’t see this latest game that Gus Ferrot (sp?) started, so I don’t know if they’ve improved or not.

I forgot about the Colts stopping him. If we stop their run game then we will win.

by theologic on Sep 22, 2008 1:43 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ferrotte threw 66 times, but I don't think his completion percentage was much above 50%.

Supposedly, he didn’t do any better than T. Jackson had been doing.

If anything, the Vikings’ WRs are even worse than the Titans—amazing but true.

And while we’re on the subject of Tavaris Jackson, check out the BRUTAL comparison between him and VY on Football Outsiders—should the Chiefs try to trade for VY:

Slaton

Slaton had 104 yards in the first half / 13 in the second half

On one run he had 80T and if you look Bullock was held completely …. It suck’s that these garbage numbers get factored into our avg. but if you look at what we have done to top rushers over the years – see LT 21 for 41 yards in wild card game … when Swartz devises schemes for a strict running offense it is not even fair when you have guys like Griffin and Hope in the box along with our D-line and backers …. not to mention potentially the most mobile strong side backer in the game in Keith Bullock – very under recognized.

Furthermore, when you’re set up for a runner like Ahman Green and they throw a quick guy like Slaton , you’re defense is going to have to adjust – and 13 yards in the second half is a testament to the resilience of our D.

Guys – I gotta tell ya , I have been studying the tapes from the last half of yesterday’s game and I am pretty dang excited. Remember when Haynesworth jumped the line of scrimmage at last years Atlanta game on that 4th and one – we did it as a unit 4 of 6 times yesterday – there are very … VERY few defenses who can stop a 4th and 1 let alone several times.

If I could say one thing about the game on the negative point of view it is this – I understand who we are as a football team and I have always been a fan of Fish’s clock management skills – but there were some oppertunities yesterday to shut down the game with a couple of first downs and like Jimmy said – 1 pass in the second half …. apart from KC’s first pass of the game he looked very accurate , especially in 4-8 yard routes ….. also – that back shoulder timing play that worked with Chris Davis and Mccarens is MONEY – side note – Mccarens HAS to be the slowest receiver in the league …. very frustrating.

One last note before going back to work – that game needs to go under review with the league – there were SEVERAL … SEVERAL horrrrrrible calls by the officiating crew – the pass to Mccarens was obviously not in bounds – the false start by the fullback was HORRENDOUS – and the late hit by Vinny Fuller or Nickey – either way WAS INSANE …. now those were just three calls that I Caught with my naked eye – under review this has to send them home when the playoffs come around – YOU SUCK JEROME BOOOOGER .. Noonan MISSS IT

by Hentrich is my Homeboy on Sep 22, 2008 2:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I would like to see L. Hawkins take McCareins's role.

McCareins short-arms at least 2 long-balls every game. I think the Hawk could come down with one of those.

Hawk

Has a 2nd gear that McCareins doesn’t have anymore/never had to begin with.

by theologic on Sep 22, 2008 3:24 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The late hit was a good call.

He should have seen the player take 3 steps out of bounds. The whistle does not stop the play, the player being down or out of bounds stops the play.

You have to be more under control than that.

by gramsey712 on Sep 22, 2008 3:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

he didn't even hit him though

he just gave him a push… and yes the whistle does stop the play… just ask the chargers

by Michaeltastic on Sep 22, 2008 3:54 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The Chargers instance was different

The rulebook says the sounding of the whistle kills a play when pass is ruled incomplete.

It does not say that a player may be hit after he is out of bounds if the whistle does not sound. Every player on that field knows that the play is dead when a player steps out of bounds and not to hit him.

by gramsey712 on Sep 22, 2008 4:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes you're right

However, it also says that a player cannot continue down the field after he has stepped out of bounds. When a player is tiptoeing along the sidelines the defense has no other choice than to make sure that player is pushed out of bounds until that whistle is blown. The late hit rule is to protect defensless players. He was still running and he just gave him a push to make sure he was out

by Michaeltastic on Sep 22, 2008 5:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

So the officials

purposely penalized the wrong player in that instance.

They should have penalized the Texan and told him he was lucky that he didn’t get killed for breaking the rules.

by gramsey712 on Sep 22, 2008 7:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm all for penalizing somebody who takes a cheap shot after the play...

And i’m not saying that the Texan should have been penalized either. But he gave him a little push within a half second of him going out of bounds.

This is NFL. If you’re going to skirt the sideline you’re going to get hit everytime.

by Michaeltastic on Sep 22, 2008 7:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

If his hammy is still dinged, we could win in a route...

because our O-line can handle their rush.
