Former Titan claimed by Broncos.

According to The Tennesean, former Titan Safety Calvin Lowry was claimed off waivers by the Denver Broncos. I'm a Broncos fan, and I'm coming over here from Mile High Report, and on behalf of the site I would like to get some information about this guy. Apart from remembering his name mentioned in the playoffs once, I've never heard of him, and if one of you could give us some information that would be great.

Thanks, and good luck to the Titans this year.

He is a decent backup safety

You don’t want to have to count on him to be your starter, but he can be solid in spot duty and will help on special teams. I wasreally surprised the Titans cut him.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

So he came in and beat out a FS for a starting spot in 06, then lost the job to Micheal Griffin in 07, but moved over to SS. Is any of that wrong?

If it is right, did you notice a difference in terms of production from him in switching positions? When he came out in the draft he was a SS but the scouts all felt like he had better range and was a liability in run support, so he was predicted to be drafted as a FS.

I’m wondering if moving back to the FS position might be a boon for him. We are in serious need of deep safeties with fluid movement and good range, with an ability to diagnose a play.

Mountains, forest, sea: these render man fierce, but yet do not destroy the man.

That could be a good move for him

but keep in mind that the starting safety he beat out was Lamont Thompson. He was the worst safety I have ever seen.

I think his biggest problem is his ball skills

If you can ever get a replay of the Titans vs. Texans game in Houston last season you will see the reason he got replaced by Griff.

He is a decent player, but he isn’t great at protecting over the top.

If the Broncos are in dire need of help as either Safety position...

…then I am sure that they’ve improved by picking up Lowry. Plus, Fisher is friends with Shanahan. Notwithstanding what happened with T. Henry, I doubt Fisher would intentionally screw the guy.
