Projecting the Tennessee Titans 53 Man Roster
By the end of the day tomorrow the Titans will have to trim the roster to 53 players. Here is the way I see it:
Locks (41)
QB- Vince Young, Kerry Collins
RB- LenDale White, Chris Johnson, Ahmard Hall
WR- Justin Gage, Justin McCareins, Lavelle Hawkins
TE- Alge Crumpler, Bo Scaife, Craig Stevens
OL- Michael Roos, Jake Scott, Kevin Mawae, Eugene Amano, David Stewart, Daniel Loper, Leroy Harris
DL- Kyle Vanden Bosch, Albert Haynesworth, Tony Brown, Jevon Kearse, Jacob Ford, Mookie Johnson, Jason Jones, Williams Hayes
LB- Keith Bulluck, David Thornton, Ryan Fowler, Stephen Tulloch
DB- Cortland Finnegan, Nick Harper, Michael Griffin, Chris Hope, Vincent Fuller, Chris Carr, Eric King, Calvin Lowry
P- Craig Hentrich
K- Rob Bironas
LS- Ken Amato
Probable (10)
RB- Chris Henry, Casey Cramer
WR- Brandon Jones
TE- Dwayne Blakely
OL- Mike Otto
DL- Dave Ball
LB- Stanford Keglar, Colin Allred
DB- Donnie Nickey, Reynaldo Hill (as much as I hate it, Fisher loves guys with experience)
That leaves us with 2 spots. One of those spots might go to John Vaughn temporarily if the the Titans are satisfied with where Bironas is coming off the injury. Let's assume they have to temporarily keep Vaughn, that leaves one spot for Roydell Williams, Biren Ealy, Quinton Ganther, Sean Conover or Tuff Harris.
It doesn't really look like there are too many tough decisions to be made. Some people have called this one of the deepest teams that the Titans have had, but I really have trouble coming up with 53 guys that deserve to be on an NFL team.

It's a deep team because, except at RB, CB, and D-Line...
…there is almost no drop-off whatsoever between the starters and the second string. But that means that there are very few superstars as well.

I am not sure that is good thing
Deep and good can be 2 different things. You could consider WR deep, but they are all bad so where does that get us?

Towards the end of a season, that can get you some wins.
But your point is well-taken. Still, there are other position, like LB, where the team is genuinely deep with talented players. And then, too, given Chris Hope’s injury history, I think we all wished the gulf wasn’t quite so wide between him and say Eric King.

Roydell Williams will be on the roster
but Chris Henry won’t be. They’ll keep Quinton Ganther instead.
I bet Biren Ealy sticks around as well.

WR & DL OFF THE WAIVERS
I think at the end RB Henry and TE Blakely will be cut leaving space for WR and DL of the waivers. Maybe for Roydell Williams if he can stay healthy. And RB Ganther will take the spot of a 3rd sting LB (Allred for example) to add depth to the backfield and because he is a better player than RB Henry and TE Blakely on special teams.

I'd like to see Ganther, Allred, and R. Williams all make the team.
And I’m willing to give up B. Jones, C. Henry, and maybe C. Cramer to see that happen. But Allred is in a TOUGH spot since the team just drafted S. Keglar. And it’s not like Keglar’s underachieving.

I say we only keep 5 WR's
they are all bums anyways….but my 5 would be:
gage, jmac, hawk, bjones, ealy….and i’m put roydell on the PUP and reevaluate at week 6….
also, i’m up for keeping chenry and ganther….
i want donney nickey cut this year…..
i like our DLine depth, but i’m concerned that if AH goes down the outlook goes from a deep line to a crappy line….

I'd say...
we’ll keep Quinton Ganther (because of his good performance as backup RB and at ST), Roydell Williams and (i hate to say it) Brandon Jones. Mike Otto. Keglar and Allred. Reynaldo Hill. Vaugh.
Ealy will not make it and Nickey as well. Chris Henry is out.

Cannot cut
a 2nd rd pick after 1 season. Blakely or Cramer will get cut.
Roydell, Ealy, and Ganther all make the team.
Roydell might get the PUP.

If he shows no sign of improving, then you have to treat it as a sunk cost.
Cut him and field the best team available.
BUT if you think he’s still going to get better or has untapped potential, then you would keep him. In this case, I’d argue that Ganther has just as much potential—and maybe more since he can also play FB.

I'm rooting for Ganther
As someone posted a few threads ago, at least we can count on production at the RB position. I’d like to see them keep no more than 5 wrs, and maybe 4 + PUP for Roydell and eye the waiver wire as suggested above. I’ve an unhappy feeling they are going to keep more than that though, and most of our WR crew deserves to be on the wire.

I do wish that Martin would have NOT been cut
I just read Ingle Martin has been cut, he played very well in the pre-season. Unfortunately there are only so many spots though. A good QB is so hard to come by and he did a nice job while playing. It would have been nice to see him play in a REAL game, instead of these tune up games against 2nd and 3rd teamers.

This might
sound ridiculous but I would like to have kept Martin over Collins.

Me too
Although I’d have liked to see them keep three. Wonder if another team will grab him to add to their backup pool. He didn’t look too shabby. And it would have been fun to see him play with 1st string, but the VY drama generated amongst fans and media if they’d done that would have been hard to listen to.

There's no need to keep three.
No one is going to claim I. Martin. He’d have to come in and learn a whole new system, and since he’s also a fairly young QB, the odds of him contributing, even as a #2, are not good. The only place he really can be productive is in TN because he already knows the system.
Now, if they were to release him at the end of the season or during OTAs, it might be a different story, but as is, he’ll be back on the Practice Squad… as the Team’s effective #3. Nothing wrong with that.
As for whether or not he has passed Collins… he certainly could have. The really telling time will be when he gets enough seniority that he can no longer go on the Practice Squad. That’s when the team would have to release Collins to make room for Martin on the actual roster.
Either way, VY is the starter and this isn’t a pressing issue now. It could be one next year, ala B. Volleck and N. O’Donnell.
