Great VY article about Texas retiring his number

By my man Richard Justice at the Houston Chronicle:

Vince Young did things on a football field that made grown men cry. He brought happiness to millions, made their boring lives worth living. He wore orange, but Tech fans, Aggie fans, UH fans, all fans rooted for him as if he was their own. Such was his greatness.

He made an entire state--and probably an entire nation--feel good about itself. All Vince Young has been to Texans is everything.

That's why nothing that happens this year in sports will be as emotionally powerful as what The University of Texas has planned for August 30. That's when Vince Young's jersey No. 10 will be retired by the Longhorns.

... Texas isn't like other places. Texas only honors a few of its own. Texas isn't like other schools. Greatness is routine at Texas. To have your jersey retired by The University of Texas, you have to be special.

Vince will join Tommy Nobis (60), Bobby Layne (22), Earl Campbell (20) and Ricky Williams (34) as the only Longhorns to have their numbers retired.

There's more chronicling of awesomeness if you follow the link above.

Shhhhhh, now.

I’m trying not to talk to loudly about the hot streak they’ve been on for fear of jinxing it… 15-3 since the trade for Wolf!

I really thought this run would be done when Lee’s pinky exploded, but they’re cashing in while they can… big stretch coming up against a slew of over .500 teams, though.

Texas should not have retired VYs #.

He has not earned a degree yet.

um, didn’t he just finish this past spring?

He isn't done yet,

but let’s not kid ourselves, retiring a jersey has nothing to do with anything but what the player did on the field.

Also, Jimmy, thanks for jinxing my guys in the beginning of this comment section...

starting about 4 hours after you said that we promptly dropped 3 of 4 and got rocked on national TV last night.

Hopefully we can right the ship against The Brewers’ non-C.C. pitchers and put another hurtin’ on the Mets later in the week…

Sorry

I would like to see yall ahead of the Brewers and Cardinals.
