8/1/08 Evening Practice Report
The lights were up and the crowd was out at tonight's practice. There were probably about a thousand people at Baptist Sports Park to see the Titans practice under the new lights.
After opening stretches the team split into positions, and I watched the receivers warm-up. Nothing spectacular to see except that after warmups Justin McCarreins, 19, didn't participate in any of the drills. I presume Jim Wyatt will have something to say about it in the Tennessean soon.
I'm going to retract my prediction about Chris Davis (the old one, not the new one), 17, not making the 53-man roster. He and TE Jamie Petrowski, 85, were the most impressive players in full team drills tonight, making difficult catches and taking hard hits immediately.
Vince looked inconsistent all night. Early in drills he threw a beautiful bomb down the right sideline for a touchdown, however it was on the other side of the field and I couldn't see the receiver. Later on he started looking like Vince of last season, not stepping through his throws and lobbing balls into the ground 3 yards in front of the intended receiver.
The defense appeared to be working on corner blitzes much of the night. I saw Cortland Finnegan, 31, make a blitz that would have resulted in a sack had it been a game, and Reynaldo Hill, 21, blitzed later on with the second unit.
Before team drills I watched the LBs go one-on-one against the RBs in a blitz pickup drill. The result was advantage RBs. Suprisingly, Chris Johnson, 28, more than held his own despite his size, and he also impressed running the ball in full team drills.
That's all for now. I planned on going to tomorrow's practice at 11:30am but am unable to attend so if any intrepid reader would like to go scouting at camp I'd very much appreciate your report.
Thanks,
Jason

Updates
McCarreins sat out due to hamstring tightness.
Vince’s deep touchdown was caught by Lavelle Hawkins, 87, during a 7-on-7 drill.
If I hit a hole-in-one on this grand slam the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

bummed
to hear that Vince is still having problems. Well, still a month to go before regular season starts. The more I hear about Chris Johnson the more excited to get. I’m not sure (other than VY) that the Titans have had a rookie in recent years that’s had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see in reg season than CJ.

Tnx for the report...
keep it coming.
It’s better IMO than what we get from the tennessean.
I’m excited to hear about Alge and Chris Johnson. Hope you could give reports on them next time. tnx.
Go Titans!

Has Vince Young had
a single great practice, where he nailed all of his throws?
Not liking the trend I am hearing.

I am not surprised/worried at all
that VY is being inconsistent. He is learning a new offense. Give him some time.

Same thing as last year
Come on. He is demonstrating the same pattern of inconsistency and you are not alarmed or concerned???
I have been around long enough to know that qb’s that are inconsistent tend to remain inconsistent, very RARELY does that change.
Give him a break because of this or that reason just doesn’t cut it anymore. I want to see a reliable guy at the controls.
