PFT: Haynesworth turns down same deal Tommy Harris got...
Is he mental? The deadline for his franchise tag is today, so it's sign a deal now or wait until next year before he can even talk about a new contract.
From PFT:
The ballpark of the discussions is unclear. We previously heard, however, that the Titans would be willing to give Haynesworth the same deal Tommie Harris recently got from the Bears. The fact that a deal hasn’t been done along those lines suggests that Haynesworth is aiming much higher than that.
The other ominous sign here: Somebody has to have talked about the internal negotiations, and usually a GM will leak that info when it makes the team look more reasonable for not signing a guy.
Ugghhh.

I wonder who Florio’s source is.

He's could be using the Chris Mortensen method:
Just guess wildly (call it ‘anonymous sources’), then say it could happen to anyone when you end up with egg on your face.

Here's the word...
Unfortunately after months of ongoing discussions with Albert Haynesworth’s representative, we were unable to agree on the right number for compensation; and by league rule, he will play under a one-year contract this year.

On the plus side
You guys get Fat Albert in a contract year once again. If he doesn’t want to sign the Titans’ long-term offer, there’s nothing that says they can’t franchise him again next year. So hey, you’ll have him playing for a big money deal yet again.
I could be wrong, but I think they can tag him again next year, but not the year after that.
I really think he’ll go back to being fat, lazy and useless once he gets a big deal anyway, so you guys might have dodged a bullet.

On tagging him again
One of the things that Haynesworth and the team were in discussion about was an agreement that he would not be tagged again. No word yet on whether or not that is included in the one-year deal, though.
I do share your concerns about the possibility of his performance dropping off once he is signed to a long-term deal, though.

I've got concerns about a long term deal for him too...
Last year he was in town for all the off-season workouts and had a career year. This year he’s back to working out on his own. I’m afraid he won’t be able to duplicate what he did last year. I’d love to be proven wrong though. So with his past, if he turned down that deal (Tommy Harris type money) he is reaching too high.

He obviously thinks he's gonna play significantly BETTER than Harris this year...
...and if he does, he will get that monster monster deal. So it’s a risk, but I think he’s got faith in himself. Can’t knock him for that. It’s bold and risky, but not crazy.
