D-Line and O-Line Rankings

Cbssportsline.com is doing a thing where they rank different positions groups.

For the Defensive line group they said this:

Best player: DT Albert Haynesworth. Weak link: LE Jevon Kearse.

The skinny: Haynesworth was the best defensive player in the league last season before his injury. He makes everybody else better. Right end Kyle Vanden Bosch is a force who plays hard all the time. Defensive tackle Tony Brown is underrated next to Haynesworth. Kearse, who returns to Nashville, is the unknown at left end. Will he regain his old form? Second-round pick Jason Jones and veteran Bryce Fisher will provide nice depth at end. There isn't a lot at tackle.

Rating: 13

And the Offensive Line group:

Best player: LT Michael Roos. Weak link: LG Eugene Amano or Leroy Harris.

The skinny: In Roos and right tackle David Stewart, the Titans have one of the best tackle duos in the game. Roos has Pro Bowl ability right now. Amano or Harris will move in as a full-time starter for the first time, which is a concern. Center Kevin Mawae is still playing at a high level.

Rating: 12

The Number one overall defensive front was San Diego and the number one offensive line was Dallas. Should we be higher on any of the two? Lower? Just about right?

We should be top 10 in both, honestly

but I can understand knocking us down the rankings because of the unproven guys….

That being said, BeansCarter and I could rotate at left end and be a top-10 D-line with Haynesworth, Boom King and Brown on the field.

Actually,

I don’t know how we aren’t top 5 in D-line ratings. We had the best run defense in the NFL last year when Fat Albert was healthy.

That's why: "when he was healthy"

When he wasn’t, people ran all day against us.

And Fat Albert has yet to play 16 games in his career.

people still don't realize how good KVB is, though...

all you here is ‘high-motor guy’, not ‘terrorizer of backfields who makes QBs soil themselves on occasion’.

Maybe,

But I still think it warrants us being in the top 10.

More.

To your point, hartley…

“Haynesworth, like fellow elite tackles Marcus Tubbs and Tommie Harris, has a greatness that is almost measured more by how his defense does in his absence. The Titans lost all three contests Haynesworth missed with a hamstring injury and gave up an average of 160 rushing yards, having allowed 95.5 per game overall. Nice contract year! Sanders, of course, already has his well-deserved payday.”

I don't disagree.

I just think that Al’s injury, combined with how much worse the defense was when he was gone, were what prevented us from getting a top ranking.

It’s about perception.
