Shainoc posted this Fanpost a while back about breaking down the games frin tge 2008 schedule individually. There wasn't much response, but I think it is a great idea, so I am going to start it today and probably do 2-3 games each week leading up to the start of training camp. Most of what I type will probably look stupid when the game actually happens because of the unpredictability of NFL teams from one year to the next, but it will be fun to get some thoughts out there anyway.
Pretty much everytime the Jaguars and Titans get together it is a slobber-knocking football game. Both teams make their living running the ball and stopping the run. The Titans bucked that trend last season in week 1 at Jacksonville when they rushed for 282 yards on their way to a 13-10 win. The Jaguars would get their revenge at LP Field in week 10 when they racked up 166 yards on the ground in a 28-13 thumping of the Titans defense that was missing Albert Haynesworth.
The Jaguars made a big effort in the offseason to upgrade their passing offense by adding wide receivers Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson. Both guys have potential to be big play receivers but have huge question marks coming into the season. The Jaguars will still be a team that tries to establish the run first, but the addition of those 2 will add the deep threat that will keep teams from stacking the box.
This will probably be another season with a split of the two match-ups. Last year each team won on the road. It will be the opposite this season with the Titans taking the opener at home 17-10.

F*ck the Jags
[Porter and Williamson] have potential to be big play receivers but have huge question marks coming into the season.
And this makes them different from every other receiver the Jags have added since the departure of Jimmy Smith how?
This team reeks of disappointment to me… if they had pulled off the Jason Taylor trade I’d be worried, but their defense is weak as hell at LB and DE, IMO.
Sweep.

Weak as hell?
Linebacker? Really? I can totally accept an “unproven rookies” argument for the Jaguars Defensive Ends, but to say that the linebackers are “weak as hell” is a little silly. Even with Peterson missing time (from Broken Bones, mind you, not ligaments and tendons), Justin Durant, Clint Ingram, and Daryl Smith held the unit together nicely.
The only way the Jaguars linebackers seem “weak as hell” is if you’re unfamiliar with the other guys on the roster. And I’d totally understand that, given that nobody outside of Jacksonville looks at our linebackers. But I wouldn’t assume that just because you’ve never seen them on ESPN or heard them mentioned on SI.com that it means they are “lesser”. Were I, someone who’s watched a whole lot of film of the AFC South, to rate the Jaguars defense, I’d put our biggest strength at linebacker, rather than calling them weak.
I won’t even get started on the Sweep talk. I think Jimmy makes some good points, and were I to make a conservative guess, I’d say we probably spit the home games this year. Jacksonville rarely comes out of the gate on top of their game and dropping the week one game is a very realistic possibility.
One thing’s for sure, it’ll come down to who stops the run.

I'm just saying that Peterson covers for a lot of those guys' mistakes, IMO
and he keeps getting banged up each year (a broken wrist is no joke); the Jags’ LB corps haven’t looked the same to me since Ayodele left. Granted I only saw about 4/5 regular season games last year, but they were struggling mightily if RBs got past the line… they definitely struggled because the DTs weren’t as dominate as usual, thus O-Linemen were getting to the 2nd level and eating them up, but they struggled none the less.
I’m sorry to poop on the parade, but I’m just not buying Jacksonville this year…

Also I didn't rip them for the reasons you listed... I'm well aware of the fact that they are very
highly regarded I just don’t see it when I watch the games (granted, not as many as you have I’m sure).
You do have to understand that week 1 of last year made it kinda hard for us to take that front 7 as seriously as we had before.
I’ll be watching when the Jags roll into town this fall.

I agree.
Whoever stops the run wins this game. Period.

I
agree - the Jags were hot last season, but their defense is way worse than ours, and those receivers aren’t worrying me a bit. I agree that the series will be tied 1-1 - Titans will win week 1

Here are my thoughts on week 1...
1. Our first game so I think ‘Dinger’s gonna open the playbook and show the new offense. I’m thinking a lot of play actions or bootlegs. Vince will run and pass. The offense will be exciting and we will confuse the Jag defense.
2. David Garrard is a good QB. He can scramble and run if he has to. He makes good decisions and is rarely intercepted. He will be the most dangerous guy on the field because we will stop the run.
3. Our defense will stop the run and if we can contain Garrard, limit his looks and force his throws, we will be in a good situation.
As such, I am predicting a high scoring ballgame here and a close one. 27-20 Titans.
