Brandon Jones arrested at airport on gun charge

Titans wide receiver Brandon Jones was arrested and issued a citation at Nashville International Airport on Friday for carrying a loaded .32 caliber gun in his baggage, an airport spokesperson confirmed.

Jones was arrested at around 11:40 a.m. and charged with a misdemeanor citation of unlawful possession of a firearm. He was released and allowed to proceed on a flight to Phoenix.

Spokesperson Mary Margaret Miller said the gun was loaded with seven rounds, but none were in the chamber. She said the Department of Public Safety, which is part of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, handled the arrest, charge and citation.

Jones issued a statement through his agent, Craig Domann:

“Today I was cited for carrying a handgun when going through security at Nashville International Airport. Obviously I did not know I was carrying my gun. This morning I grabbed a bag and placed my clothing in the bag, then rushed to the airport. I had forgotten that the last time I had used the bag was when I went target shooting.

“I fully cooperated with authorities who confiscated the handgun at the security gate. I have a license for the handgun and a permit for carrying one. Realizing that I was not intentionally carrying the handgun nor did I have any intention of harming anyone, I was allowed to board my airplane and continue my travels.

“I want to apologize for any embarrassment this might cause my family, the Titans organization or my teammates.”

The Titans said they were aware of the developments but had no comment.

Jones had 21 receptions and two touchdowns last season, his third in the NFL.

Glad to see

he remembers he has his handgun about as much as he remembers his job is to catch the ball.

This is a non-issue...

...but it will be interesting to see how many people knee-jerk and call Brandon a thug.

I'm not calling him a thug......

but I’m a gun guy and I travel quite a bit. I have never “forgotten” that I had my gun. Maybe liar is a better word than thug.

I’ll agree with Beans on this one. He’s out anyway. Dallas might pick him up, and we’ll know every move he makes in Dallas because the Tennessean will report on him anyways.

Liar?

Really? He knew he had his gun and he thought he could get through security with it? If he is lying, then this has to be one of the dumbest people on the face of the earth.

Yep.

If he’s telling the truth I would classify him as one of the dumbest, but I think he’s probably stretching the truth with the “I forgot” story. One just doesn’t “forget” where they placed a gun.

Anyway, I just got back online after a LONG period and honestly this is the last thing I should or wanted to post on. I think I’ll stick to football and leave justice and morality issues alone for awhile.

How’s everything going in here? I’m catching up slow but sure.

ah who cares?

he probably won’t even make the roster this year anyway…he has hands of brick. guns or not.

Sounded like the charge was nmore like a citation than an arrest.

He still got to take his trip, so apparently they weren’t too pissed off at him.

AT least he didn't pull

a Damon Stoudamire...

I’ll take a ‘i forgot’ excuse over a ‘i though foil would work’.

What an idiot.

Either he’s stupid enough to actually forget where he left his handgun (which is not something responsible gun owners do)...

...or he was stupid enough to think he could take a gun on a plane and not get caught.

sigh
Not a “thug” though; he wasn’t trying to shoot anybody, and he probably really does have a legitimate license for it. This is more like the gun charge that McNair got a couple years ago.

i'm not calling him a thug

but I think carrying a loaded gun into an airport should receive a much harsher punishment…

in fact, I think if someone is dumb enough to carry a gun into an airport, they should get automatic jail time….....heck, maybe even make it a felony…..

again, i don’t think he is a thug, but I lost a lot of respect for him today…...i hope he gets cut….

in fact, I think this deserves an nfl based punishment too….

Why...?

Half this country allows people to carry loaded guns in buses and subways legally, why is an airport inherently more “wrong”?

The only reason Brandon Jones should get cut is for having “anvil” hands, not because of this stupid non-story about his handgun.

I'm with Beans on this one.

There didn’t appear to be any malicious intent here. If that’s the case, then he’s just a moron. This is not the NFL’s business.

if i can't bring fingernail clippers to an airport

you dang well shouldn’t bring guns to the airport…..

if someone brings a gun on a bus and pulls it out, you can promptly pull over….....chances are that no matter what goes wrong, not everyone in the bus would die….

if someone brings a gun on a plane, you just can’t pull over easily….

seriously….

i can’t bring freaking liquids (freaking shampoo) on a plane, but you think a gun is alright…

face it, after 9-11, planes are different…different than buses and subways….

i don’t think people should have guns on buses or subways or the streets either…......but that fight looks lost…...

airports aren’t….

do you have to go through a metal detector to get on a bus?

maybe you should direct your question to the FAA and congress, since they agree with me…..

you try to use the “it is legal to carry a gun on a bus” as your rebutal, but using your logic it isn’t legal to carry a gun on a plane…...wtf…..

by zackmann on Jun 16, 2008 11:04 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You need to read more carefully

Obviously you cannot fly with a gun, because the metal detector is a reamarkably good tool for detecting hunks of metal, as evidenced by the detection of said hunk of metal. As far as I know, you can bring a gun into an airport in many places, legally. Why this is any different from a grocery store is beyond me. For better or worse, if you live in a place where people can legally carry guns, you live with the reality that people do carry guns in places you may frequent.

zackmann thinks that someone who carries a loaded gun into an airport should get jail time. My opinion – that’s an irrational and poorly thought out statement. Obviously Brandon Jones made a silly mistake.

This debate is ridiculous – there is no plausible explanation for Brandon intending to carry the gun through a metal detector.
