Titans Sign Rocky Schwartz
The Tennessee Titans rounded out their 80 man roster yesterday by signing Rocky Schwartz, S, University of Houston. The Titans currently are carrying 88 players, but the 7 rookies haven't been signed yet, and Albert Haynesworth doesn't count because he hasn't signed the tender. It would be nice if they would work that whole thing out..

My 1st post!
After visiting this site for a while now, I finally joined and hope I can add to the discussion about Titans football.
Now for something a little off topic, and I don’t want to seem weird or anything, but August West, have you ever posted on the WWTDD site? I swear I’ve seen you comment over there after reading your comments from here.
I’m not stalking ya, just finding ways to not do my job.

never commented on WWTDD, but I've seen the site.
I do peruse With Leather, which is in the same family… welcome to the site!
“just finding ways to not do my job.”
Amen to that… luckily my job involves waiting for customer approvals on most projects, so I get a decent amount of down time on some days, and I’m in front of the computer almost all day at work anyways…

Something about the post
So the Titans have 88 players, with the 7 rookies and fat Al unsigned. In total, if everyone were to get signed, that would be like 120 players on the roster if my math is correct.
How many do they carry for the start of the season? In Madden, I think the max is maybe 60? Not sure about that though.

Right now the total is 88 counting the rookies and Albert.
When the season starts they will have to get down the 53. They will have to be at 80 until the first cut, so when they sign a rookie they will have to cut someone.

If you'r gonna count all those guys...
...you really ought to count the Practice Squad as well, since most of your better teams use it as a way to maintain backups at high injury positions, like cornerback. And then, too, most teams maintain an extensive “who you gonna call…” list.
For example, the Patriots were famous for using over 60 players on their active roster at some point or other in the last season in which they won the Super Bowl. Making good use of junior players like that is an art that I somtimes think the Titans ought to explore more deeply, for example at Running Back.

Of course the Patriots...
...are also known for using IR guys in practice. Another nice way to boost your roster numbers – except that it’s illegal.

Nowadays...
the word “illegal” and Patriots always appear together in a statement…
