Matt Ryan Gets $34.75 Million Guaranteed
This might be part of the reason the owners opted out of the current deal. It is ridiculous to give any player, especially a quarterback, who has never played a game in the NFL that kind of money. Matt Ryan's total deal is 6 years, $72 million.
The NFL really needs to go to a structure similar to what the NBA has for it's rookies. If you are picked in this spot you get X amount for X number of years. That way you can spend the big money on the proven guys when they are headed to free agency.

i'm guessing the contract stipulates that Ryan wear a ski mask on paydays
and on the bench after he makes his home there…

This is one reason why it's hard for basement-dwellers to get...
...out of the basement. That payday can just kill a team’s finances.

Anybody else get the feeling you won't see a top 5 QB until they fix the rookie salaries?
It just doesn’t seem to be worth it. VY was the last one to get a semi-sane deal.

VY's deal got him
$24 million in guarantees. Same spot 3 years later gets $10 million more. That is out of control..

And VY CLEARLY has more potential than Ryan.
Folks were talking about Ryan not even going in the Top 10. Anybody remember that being said about Vince?
