That's 12-4 for those of you keeping score at home. I think the first 8 game win streak is very achievable. And, I can just hear the talking heads, "No one saw this coming. The Titans came out of nowhere." Anyone who followed the Titans last year knows how dangerous we would have been if the passing game was working. Running game was solid. Run defense was best in the league with a healthy/motivated Albert. Pass defense was suspect at times, but the D-line made up for it. Rob Bironas and his bionic leg gave us one of the best kicking game in the league. All that was missing was the passing game... Enter Mike Heimerdinger. I can't help but think that he is going to do wonders for this offense and team in general. It's a three headed monster having to defend against our team with Chris Johnson in the backfield if the passing game is working. Imagine this: We're running out of the shotgun. Gage and Roydell spread wide, Lavelle in the slot on the strong side, Crumpler on the strong side at TE, Chris Johnson next to VY. Last season, no one had near the speed of Johnson, so there was always a spy on VY and two safeties helping over the top. Because of all the over the top help, corners never had to respect our receivers because there was always back up. Defenses can't afford to do that anymore with Johnson's explosiveness, a safety or LB will always have to account for him. With two athletes in the backfield like VY and Johnson, it is almost impossible to defend if the offense executes correctly. It was evident to me from the getgo that Chow did not like VY. Leinart was his preference from the beginning. He continued to try to fit a square peg into a round hole. That didn't work, so he tried to take the risk out of Vince's hands which put him in even more of a position to fail. Run. Run. Pass. No quarterback will succeed in that system...and certainly not VY. Vince has never been a drop back passer. That has never been what made him so dangerous. If they wanted that in a quarterback, Leinart or Cutler were the answers. I'm not suggesting Vince is a bad passer, but merely that he is a good passer and a great athlete. I think Heimerdinger understands this...and the pick of Chris Johnson confirms the belief. If this offense is going to hum, the OC must use Young's athletic ability. Drafting Johnson instead of a receiver opens everything up and makes everyone better because the two best athletes at any given time are in the backfield. A defense will always have to account for 4.24 speed, VY's arm, and of course his athleticism as well. So, back to our example. Let's consider for this example, that he defense is running in man out of a nickle coverage. Two corners cover the wideouts. Nickleback covers Lavelle. LB on Crumpler. LB spies Vince. One Safety on Johnson. The addition of Johnson frees up some of that coverage over the top and also forces the corners to ease up a bit on our receivers since the back up is no longer there. It may not sound like much, but those 1x1 windows VY had to throw into will get a lot bigger because of this. This is only one scenario, and I'm sure you can all do the rest. Having one extra athlete on the field is going to open everything up. And, if this passing game gets working like we all know it can, everything else gets better. |

mmm....
Pretty optimistic.
And why would you have us lose to the Bears? The Bears are a complete garbage team.
Just to put your enthusiasm in perspective, Vegas has set the over/under on Titans wins this year at 8. We should be happy if we make the playoffs – As much as I wish it were true, we’re not a 12-win team.

If I remember correctly...
Vegas had the Titans o/u at 7 for last year. So, I’m not sure how relevant that really is…
And, as it relates to Vegas, their job isn’t to predict the number of wins, but to get even action on both sides so they make their money on the juice. Just because they set the o/u at 8 doesn’t necessarily mean that is what they expect.
Bears…a garbage team, huh? If we’re using Vegas as a metric, the Bears are equally as good as the Titans with an o/u of 8 wins. If the Titans win 8 straight, I could see them sleeping on the Bears and losing in a tough environment like Soldier field.

fair enough...
Except we won games last year we had no business winning, namely the freebie from Indi. Erase the week 17 W and we’re a 9-win team, at an O/U of 7, this is a small deviation of only 2 games, and it is exponentialy more difficult to win 12 games than it is to win 10.
Vegas sets the line at a market-clearing price. If you have some particular information that the rest of the gambling public doesn’t have then you should rush out and bet the farm on the Titans. But, the truth is that the Titans year rests on hope this year, not precedent. This offense needs a ton of work, and the second coming of Dinger has yet to bear any fruit.
I think a lot of outcomes are within the realm of possiblity this year, but the odds of being a 12-win team are slim to none. We’re simply not there yet.
FYI, the Bears are worse than the Titans, but they have an easier schedule. I we got to play St-Louis, Detroit twice, the 49ers, the Saints, and the Falcons, this year, our O/U would be inflated too.

I think it's an 11-win team.
I agree with Beans about Chicago, plus you have to add at least one loss that’s inexplicable or basically due to mental lapses. We had THREE of those last year (Indy 1, Tampa, SD1). Reduce that tally to one, and you’ve achieved a lot, especially in a parity League.

The Chicago game was...
The “mental lapse”...I just needed it in there somewhere. It was between that and Baltimore. Bad team or not, playing at Soldier field is never a walk in the park.

The loss to Cincy was worse than the Indy or SD losses to me. That was embarrassing.

But it wasn't a mental lapse.
It was a blowout. A lot would have had to change to change the outcome.

ha ha...
yawn it off. maybe thats why vince throws more picks than TDs. do you or anyone else have proof that marv pulled the trigger? nope. but i understand you have to come back with something, so i applaud your efforts. just like the report that the whole thing had to do with marv’s dad. guess what, marv’s dad died when he was 2! laughable. if it is proven marv pulled the trigger, i will come back for a nice helping of crow…but so far there is no evidence. innocent until proven guilty doesn’t even apply here since he hasn’t been charged with a thing. at worse, he’s in trouble because it’s his gun.

How you posted it on the Colts site and they don’t care, so you bring it over here. This must really have you excited.

Just imagine...
just imagine if the titans were not currently in the toughest division in football, by FAR. All four teams this year have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs…(well im giving houston the benefit of the doubt that they didn’t somehow get worse)

i saw a replay game the otherday when we played the jags the second time. that was a piss poor preformance on offence. not only was it 3 and out like 5 times in a row jones drew ran all over the defence for touchdowns. but i do think the titans offensve will be greatly improved this year and i mean greatly. i also think the chemistry will be better this year even over last year cus chow is no longer with the team and its like getting a fresh start from last year they get a chance to turn over a new leaf. if chow had stayed around i think the titans would have a worse record then they did last year. so iam saying 10 and 6, 11 and 5 maybe, hopefully thats enough to get into the playoffs.

Last year's D-Line was sub-par without Big Al.
And it almost killed the season. Same thing happened vs. Denver. Granted, the offense wasn’t helping, but at least with the Jags—I mean, that is a team known to play a little D now and again.
