Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Inbred?

The Chris Johnson pick is simply inexcusable.  They could have traded down into the early-mid second round and still got this douchebag.  It wasn't a wise use of the pick and hearing Wycheck laud this pick makes him look like a companyman.

If they were hellbent on a RB, they should have traded up a little to ensure that they got one.  Now, it looks like the were determined to get a running back regardless of who fell to them.

If he is a bust, Reinfeld and whoever else pushed for this pick need to be fired.

On a more serious note, is the Titans staff too inbred?  Reinfeld is a former Titans, Fisher has been their forever, and Dinger is a re-tred.  I don't know much about their scouting staff, but I'm assuming that Mr. Adams has hired folks that he is comfortable with and his pattern tells me that they are also former Titans.

Is there enough diversity in this front office to get a good argument over who to draft or are they all so alike that they all want the same guy/position?  A lack of diversity creates the inability to be critical of dumb decisions (i.e. Chris Henry).

yes
You're right. None of the Titans staff has any clue about anything that has to do with football. They just woke up yesterday morning and drew Chris Johnson's name out of a hat. You probably know more about football than Fisher, Dinger, Adams, and the rest of the staff combined. Perhaps you should be hired, and we would go 16-0.

Come on now
That's not what I'm saying.  I'm wondering if you got a kitchen cabinet making the decisions instead of a diverse group of folks with different opinions.  You have to admit, Bud like to bring his own guys into positions.  If Reinfeld didn't have Titan ties, he probably wouldn't have been the GM pick.

alright
I see what you're saying now. I was just kinda mad you were attacking chris johnson cuz I really like that pick (looks like i'm in the minority). I agree things could be a little more diversified, but this team is improving really well. sorry if i sounded offensive lol

This team keeps getting better and better
and the staff obviously decided we needed a game breaker to give teams something other than Vince to worry about.  Since apparently no other GMs liked this year's WRs that much, I bet they thought they could get Jones or Mendenhall and snagged Johnson early.

But hey, if he goes to a slew of Pro Bowls one day nobody's going to remember if he went 10 picks too early for the taste of a bunch of draftniks.

It's fine to get a grat change-up back.
That's all good.  I think the guy is gonna succeed and have been one of the ones arguing for a really good change-up.  If we got that, then great.  It definitely WILL help.

But it's still frustrating to have has such HUGE struggles in the passing game, and then when the very BEST WR falls in your lap, and you still reach for a different guy.  If it works, great.  I just don't wanna see freakin' Brandon Jones drop any more damn game-winners.  After passing on the BEST receiver in the draft, that would be hard to stomach.

But then again, maybe if the Team'd had our new change-up, we'd have beaten SD twice.  He's DEFINITELY an upgrade over the tandem of C. Brown and C. Henry.

They were talking about Chris Johnson
On Friday.  Nashville City Paper interviewed Reinfeldt and two of the Titans recruiters, and they were lusting after speed.  Chris Johnson and Felix Jones were specifically mentioned.  It didn't sound like they cared whether speed came in a RB or WR package, but speed is what they wanted.

I'm not saying it will turn out to be a brilliant pick, I'm just saying they picked exactly who they and what they intended to.

This is what you get for getting too wrapped up in mock drafts - disappointment ;-)!  If you are totally ignorant of the college game as I am, then you don't watch the draft going "WHO??? They drafted WHO??!!!"...  Ignorance is Bliss.

I just can't wait till the dang pre-season starts and I get to see some of these guys on the field!

Well
At least we'll have someone to blame! ;-).

Frank's also gotta be pleased that Mr. Adam P. Jones is outta town - a good day for Wycheck.

I still think
They may try to use him some at WR and see if it works out. You won't really know till we see it all pan out if they made the right choices. I'll admit I think they made some weird choices too. But they do seem to know what they are doing.

One thing that sticks out in my mind...
... is an interview that the Tennessean did w/ Munchak where he basically ripped this class of D-Linemen in its entirety.  He hated ALL of them.  Had no time for ANY of the supposed stand-outs.  And more than anything else, I think that's why we got the draft we got.  He seems to have gone for sheer size and motivation, which is probably justifiable given his track record.

Munchak? D-Linemen?
Isn't Mike Munchak our O-Line coach?

Jim Washburn is the D-line coach
did anyone else hear Chris Mortensen quiet everyone down so that he could call Washburn something like 'the best D-line coach in the league and one of the best of all time' after we took Jones?

I agree, and I never question the D-Linemen we take.  Washburn always knows what he's doing in that regard.

Ooops.
And yes, I heard that.  Seems like they went to extremes to find motivated D-Linemen.

Wycheck
Definite homer. Rarely criticizes anyone related with Titans.

Not just a homer.
Wycheck actually called this pick, like a month ago.

Of course he's happy about it.
