2008 NFL Draft Open Thread

The big day is finally here.  I will be updating this thread with every pick as the draft goes along.  It is already a good day because the Titans have locked up Michael Roos to a long term deal.

2:03- Miami Dolphins --Jake Long, OT, Michigan.

You have got to love the fact that Jets fans are already booing their newest division rival Jake Long.

2:11- St. Louis Rams --Chris Long, DE, Virginia

No real surprise there. The Rams struggled pretty mightily on defense last season.

2:18- Atlanta Falcons --Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College.

Smart move for the Falcons if they are convinced he is their franchise guy. The Titans should trade up to get Glenn Dorsey.

2:27- Oakland Raiders --Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas.

The biggest playmaker in the draft. He is troubled so it is fitting that he ends up in Oakland. The Titans need to make the move to get Dorsey.

2:34- Kansas City Chiefs --Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU.

Dorsey might be the best player in this draft. That is a great value for the Chiefs at 5, and they have another pick in the top 20. They said on the NFL Network that the Saints offered #10 this year, their 2nd this year and their 1st next year for that pick. I would have been tempted by that one.

2:44- New York Jets --Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State.

Gholston is a specimen. He will be a good fit in their 3-4 defense.

2:52-The Patriots have apparently traded with the Saints. The Saints take Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC.

The terms have not been announced, but knowing the Patriots, they probably got about 3 first round picks.

2:54- The Jags just moved from 26 to 8. That is a huge move, and it was probably very costly.

2:57- The Patriots got #10 this year and a 3rd round pick.

3:00- Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida to the Jaguars.

That was quite a move to make to get Harvey. It will be interesting to see what the Ravens got.

3:05- Keith Rivers has a Benglas hat on so I think it is safe to assume the Bengals are taking him.

3:06- The Jags gave up two 3rds and a 4th (plus the 1st round swap). Not as bad as I thought it would be.

3:12 Jerod Mayo, LB, Tennessee to the Patriots

I am a little shocked, but it is the Patriots so in 2 years he will be a Pro Bowler who also returns kicks.

I gots a good feeling about today...
Also, I heard Floyd Reese on ESPN radio this morning say that he had turned in the pick to NY and was on the phone with Devin Hester when Fisher  interrupted to say he and Norm really wanted LenDale.  Not judging it up or down, but I though that was interesting to hear how close we got to going a different direction...

I'm a fan of LenDale's, so...
...honestly, I think that Coach and Norm might've made the right choice there.  I mean, yeah, Hester is good, but he hasn't been more than a return man yet.  And it's hard to imagine last season working out without LenDale White.  For better or worse, he WAS the offense.

That said, I think Norm Chow had too much pull in the organization.  I trust 'Dinger's judgment a LOT more.

Seriously
Hester is a huge weapon, but he cant play defense and not much offense. LenDale is obviously not as dynamic a player but he can touch the ball 30 times a game versus say 5 or 6 times max for hester.

Rams here...
Long? Dorsey?

I think Dorsey will be a better player, however I think Long may be better for their system.

I say they'll take Howie's son.

That was dumb.
Glenn Dorsey is the standout here IMO.

And BTW, Mel, how can Chris Long be under-rated if he went second?

Here's where things get interesting.

Matt Ryan?
Glenn Dorsey?

I love draft day.

They're showing Dorsey on NFL.
And he looks pissed.  He's gonna EAT somebody.  Lord, somebody pick the best player available!

After thinking about it a little more,
I decided I want the Titans to draft Sweed or Thomas in the 1st.  If they're not there, then go DE and draft Earl in the second.

we need to
trade up for Gholston

by zackmann on Apr 26, 2008 2:37 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't think that's going to happen.
What do we have of value to trade up for him?

We could trade future picks, etc., but I don't think we should trade the house for him.

now i want us to trade up to draft...
commartie-rodgers....

or whatever his name is....

Pats and Saints Trade
They swapped 1st round picks and the Pats gave up their 5th round pick for the Saints 3rd round pick.

Yikes..
Jacksonville trading up from 26 to 8.. and get Derrick Harvey?? I think that was terrible... That will cost them big... yeah is he good but for what it might cost them??? Odd.

by RhiNo6705 on Apr 26, 2008 3:05 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Jacksonville got off very lightly.
Didn't have to give up any first or 2nd round picks.

by nvemvp23 on Apr 26, 2008 3:08 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

but they only gave up
2 3rds and 4th way lower price than i thought

by LastSd on Apr 26, 2008 3:08 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I bet the cheaters will....

Go Titans!

by Pinoy Titan on Apr 26, 2008 3:11 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs
