Is Fisher really leaving the door open?

These are interesting comments by Fisher - perhaps it is just a negotiation ruse...  But with Pac handing out food to the poor and Goodell saying he is encouraged by his attitude, could it be that the Titans are changing their perspective a bit?  Can they get more value for Pacman if they get him on the field a bit this year and hold off until the trade deadline?

Are they actually considering all these options seriously?

They have to leave the door open, and be...
...serious about it if they want Dallas to give up a better draft pick.  And hey, they could always take the guy back and have him just as a return-man.  If he's back in the League and playing, I'd think they'd get significantly more in compensation for him down the road.

Seriously?
That quote looked to me like pure positioning for negotiations.  If Fisher doesn't include point, then everyone would say 'well he's got almost no value now because everyone knows they'll just release him for no compensation.'

We need other bidders to drive-up the price.

Jerry Jones is the only owner who is arrogant, greedy and dumb enough to trade for a guy whose reinstatement date isn't set in stone yet.  The others (who all say they aren't interested right now) are willing to wait.

Think of it like an E-Bay auction: when you see that signed Loggins & Messina album you're dying for, you don't bid while there's still 2 weeks left in the auction because you're just going to make it more expensive for yourself - if you wait and jump in at the last minute you'll be Sailing on the Sea of Smooth Music at a good price for both sides!

But you have to be willing to call the bluff.
And there's no compelling reason to hurry on the trade.  You can keep on the roster for free (not cap free, actual free) as long as he's suspended, and it's no big deal.  The Titans are in cap shape to do it, and no one in TN cares if Pacman has to sweat it out over where he's gonna play next year.

IMO it would make sense to keep him and keep him on the inactive roster (if necessary) rather than take a 6th round pick for him.  Why give Dallas a steal?  There's no reason to do that.

"keep him on the inactive roster"
yeah, you-know-who would be really quiet and understanding about being kept on the inactive roster all year.  He'd just sit on the side line and 52-Card Pick-up with a garbage bag full of ones...

Even worse: they couldn't do anything else with him to keep him further away from the locker room or sidelines (ala Keyshawn and TO a few years back, before it was addressed in the new CBA) or they would be sued by the NFLPA and lose.

As Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter once wrote: 'He's gone / and nothin's gonna bring him back... / nothin left to do but SMILE, SMILE SMILE!'

Keep Him!
If Pacman HAS changed... KEEP HIM! I honestly think he has changed from the things he has said. Maybe they are words, but anyone's got to learn from the kind of stuff he has gone through. I just hope if we keep him he stays out of trouble!

Nah, Pacman has not changed...
He's still a complete douchebag, and likely will be for life, but if he can still get 26 yards a return on punts and learn to not get arrested, I think he'll look great running around LP field on Sundays...

I don't think Pacman has changed.
With that said, I also do not think his happiness is a very important consideration.  Whatever the team has to do to get as much value out of him as they can, that's what they should do--even if it involves real misery for Jones himself.  He's under contract and has already had a bunch of chances to get straight with the team.
