I miss all of you as well!

It seems like lately the only time I get to relax is when I get to sit down and watch the games on Sunday…

Good news is I’m getting a laptop for Christmas, I know as I’ve been told I’m a little behind the times. I used to run from room to room to comment with you guys in the threads… I do not like to miss a play, so you could imagine how hectic that got.

I still read all the time, I like August West’s thing he’s got going on. Pretty cool how things work out. Now that winter is here I will have much more time with work slowing down…

How much fun has this season been? Seriously, sit back and think about what we’ve accomplished. I still sit here and wonder how it is we are as good as we are. But we definitely are a very good football team regardless of what anyone says. We can run it down your throat, we can play D with just about anyone, and we can throw when we really need too.

Unbelievable! The difference a guy like Chris Johnson can make! How many 3rd downs does Kerry just dump it off and CJ just coasts to the 1st down marker.

I guess it all kind of makes sense though right? I mean we were a 10-6 team last year… Throw a gamebreaker like CJ into the mix along with an experienced QB and off we go.

I really hope everyone is sitting back enjoying this, I have been a fan of this franchise for a long time. Seasons like these don’t happen often for guys like me Titans/Indians fan.

I will make that thread roll call list at least once this season… I love that!

Again, congrats on division. The titans totally deserved to win it. Now, prepare to lose Week 17 and, if you make it to us in the playoffs, prepare to go down hard.

Well you have to understand

After having such a good run (5 Division Titles) and being the favourites to win the SuperBowl so many times, to have only gotten away with one ring has got to be hugely disappointing, and now, with the realization that they are a team whose future looks to be less succesful than their past must be a tough pill to swallow.

The problem with Colts fans is they don’t even believe that we genuinely deserved to win the division. Instead they blame it on things like bursa sacs and injured centers and safeties, etc… They also seem to think that Peyton Manning is playing lights out, but in reality they haven’t played a decent team since they met the Steelers in Week 10. On top of that, they narrowly avoided defeat against the Chargers, Browns, and Texans (for the second time), yet they prefer to use terms like gritty, determined, clutch, when describing their team even when other adjectives such as lucky, overrated, and runner-up do a much more accurate job of it.

playing 5 seasons

and losing the division all 5 times, making the playoffs twice ad going 1-2 while there has to be even more crushing.

I do wish the Colts had won more SBs in the last 5 years, but 5, 12 wins seasons and division championships plus a title beats the hell out of 2 losing seasons, a .500 season, a wildcard loss and a divisional loss.

oh and FO (a site founded by a Pats fan so no chance at homerism) says

Peyton’s been the better QB in the AFC this year,

has been better per play than Kurt Warner

has been one of the top 2 QBs of the week 4 of the last 6 weeks

has been better than Warner 5 of the last 6 weeks

has been better than Brees 4 of the last 6 weeks.

good lord

Just because he’s been able to overcome his own ( not the rest of the team’s) screw-ups and find a way to get into field goal range against sub-par teams does not make him MVP. Sage Rosenfels would be a better MVP candidate for the Colts

and some conventional statistics in case the good stuff makes you head spin

307-477, 64.4% completion, 3225 yards, 22 TDs, 12 INTs, 6.8 Y/A, 5.8 ANY/A

That’s not a QB who is hurting his team. That’s one of the best in the league. The counting stats project out to 3,969 yards, 27 TDs, 15 INTs and that’s against a schedule that is 9th in opponent record and 7th in opponent DVOA.

I never said he was having a horrible year

It’s just not an MVP year. Those numbers also don’t explain that he has 3 All-Pro WR’s and and All-Pro TE. If Warner doesn’t deserve some consideration, why is his passer rating 10 points higher than?

by Michaeltastic on Dec 10, 2008 6:29 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Warner has

two WRs that are definitely playing better than Marvin/Gonzo and probably better than Wayne right now with a pretty good 3rd WR. He also got a far softer schedule and is fading while Peyton is charging.

Peyton is the MVP because he’s kept the Colts in contention when the line has been racked with injuries and the running game has gone nearly nowhere most of the year. His total numbers aren’t phenomenal yet, but he’s been coming on strong and his 3rd down performance has been spectacular. FO ranks him higher than his conventional numbers because of the great 3rd down performance. The Colts lead the league in 3rd down conversion % on Peyton’s back (the running game is converting 3rd and shorts at a league average rate, see FO’s OL stats and find “power success”) That’s why Peyton is clearly the team’s MVP, is deserving of the league MVP and making a strong push to actually win it.

...

Are you seriously one of those strength of schedule people. It means absolutely nothing. This is the NFL. Anybody can beat anybody (except the Lions).

And Warner had 1 bad game in Philadelphia so he’s fading? 15/21 125 yards 2 ints… Peyton is charging!

If the Saints end up making it to playoffs how does Drew Brees not get it over Peyton?

Look, Peyton probably deserves to be in the talk of MVP ( with about 25 other people in the league), but it’s not like he’s winning games all by himself. Your WR’s have stepped up big in the second half of this season and your defense is finally learning to play without Bob Sanders.

There’s really nobody in the NFL this year that sticks out as an MVP and the reason several “experts” are throwing Peyton’s name out there is because he’s the most popular QB in the league

FJM this sucker
Are you seriously one of those strength of schedule people. It means absolutely nothing. This is the NFL. Anybody can beat anybody (except the Lions

I am a proud strength of schedule person and we not tolerate your ignorant discrimination. So you are saying that who a team plays has nothing to do with how they perform? A team that plays the NFC West should have the same success as one that plays the NFC South? A QB should have a similar passing day against the Pittsburgh Steelers D as the St. Louis Rams D? A back should be able to produce the same running at the Williams’ in Minny than at the Texans interior? NFL schedules are unbalanced creating differences in performance between teams and players.

Warner had 1 bad game in Philadelphia so he’s fading?

Yes, one bad game doesn’t prove the direction a QB is trending

15/21 125 yards 2 ints… Peyton is charging!

Oh wait, so you think it does?

If the Saints end up making it to playoffs how does Drew Brees not get it over Peyton?

By the site I cited Brees has been better than Peyton this season and in the recent trend stats Peyton isn’t gaining all that quickly. Brees is haven’t a great year and if he keeps it up is definitely a top candidate and I wouldn’t throw a fit if he got it over Manning.

Look, Peyton probably deserves to be in the talk of MVP ( with about 25 other people in the league),

So now he is a top player? Because earlier you were telling me that Sage Rosenfels was the Colts MVP.

Your WR’s have stepped up big in the second half of this season

Reggie Wayne had 70+ yards in each of the first 5 games and has gone over 70 twice since. Two of Marvins 3 best games were in the first 5, but he has been more consistent in the second half of the year. Same story for Gonzalez. All 3 of Clark’s top games were in the first half of the year. No receiver has taken a big leap the ball is just being spread between them better now than at the start of the year.

your defense is finally learning to play without Bob Sanders.

Just throwing things up there to see if they stick? Yes I fact check compliments too, The D is giving up 14 points per game in games with Sanders this year vs 24 without him. 14 PPG is less than the league leader and 24 PPG is in the worse half of the league, just behind the Raiders.

There’s really nobody in the NFL this year that sticks out as an MVP and the reason several "experts" are throwing Peyton’s name out there is because he’s the most popular QB in the league

and because, you know, he’s been the best QB in the league over the last 6 weeks and one of the best over the year so far.

Talk about backhanded compliments
being the favourites to win the SuperBowl so many times

Before the playoffs started, this happened 1 time, in Jan. 2006. They lost to the eventual Super Bowl champions, and I was disappointed at the time. Officially, they were the favorites to win Super Bowl XLI (7.5 points), covered, and won the Super Bowl. They definitely were not favored to win the Super Bowl at the start of those playoffs, and they were 4.5 point underdogs to the Ravens in the Divisional Round. Hardly favorites.

they are a team whose future looks to be less succesful than their past

If by less successful, you mean we may only win 11 games this season instead of 12, than sure. I’d bet you wished the Titans would win 11 games and be “less successful”. Really the only other difference from previous seasons and this one is when our long winning streak happened. It usually has been at the beginning of the year, but now it’s at the end. I kind of like it that way.

The problem with Colts fans is they don’t even believe that we genuinely deserved to win the division

I only had to hit “Page Up” twice on this page to see this non-believing, from the biggest homer of the bunch:

Again, congrats on division. The titans totally deserved to win it.

The Titans definitely deserve the division title. They’ve only lost 1 game. The Colts are going to have a similar record to what they’ve done each of the past 5 seasons. The Colts didn’t lose it, the Titans won it. Quote me wherever you’d like, they’ve earned it.

they narrowly avoided defeat against the Chargers, Browns, and Texans

The Chargers blew out the Jets, who blew out the Titans. They really are bad huh? The Browns blew out the Giants. The Texans haven’t lost since we beat them last (3 in a row).

they prefer to use terms like gritty, determined, clutch, when describing their team

You are right, and I found evidence of this. Check it out from this huge Colts fan (emphasis mine):

A Win against the Chargers is not in and of itself very impressive, but Peyton put up an awesome clutch performance and deserves credit for the win.

I can’t believe that guy used “clutch” to describe Manning. He’s such a homer. He was clearly just lucky.

by mgrex03 on Dec 10, 2008 12:54 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Well aren't you clever?

If you think that me conceding that Peyton was clutch against the Chargers is an admission that I must therefore believe his whole season has been “clutch”, then you could really make use of a course in basic logic.

People aren’t idiots here, mgrex03, so don’t bother building these little straw man arguments to make your point. We know you love the Colts.

And spare us your self-righteous crap about congratulating us on winning the division. It’s completely patronizing and disingenuous, and we know how you actually feel.

We also know, much like Bill Simmons does, that…

…the Colts are five plays away from potentially being 3-9: Tarvaris Jackson’s second dumb turnover in Week 2; Sage Rosenfels trying to leap two guys for a first down in Week 5; Dave Thomas’ stupid late hit in Week 9; Marvin Harrison’s fourth-down catch in San Diego (Week 10); and Derek Anderson fumbling away the lead (and the game) in Week 12. If those five plays had gone the other way, the Colts would be 3-9. I watched all five of those games and say that with complete certainty. So there.
