Breaking News... And Not The Good Kind
As BigW noted in the sidebar, Titans Defensive Tackle Kevin Vickerson has been busted by the league's drug policy. Here's more from the Tennessean's Jim Wyatt:
Titans defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson is facing a four-game suspension from the NFL for violation of the league's anti-doping policy, according to league sources familiar with the situation.
Vickerson, a reserve who’s played in seven games, is expected to begin serving his suspension beginning with Sunday’s game against the Browns.
Vickerson tested positive for the banned diuretic, bumetanide. He initially planned to appeal but decided Friday to serve the suspension.
Vickerson is the 2nd Titans player that comes to mind - the other being RB Chris Henry - to get popped for a 4 game suspension in the last 2 years. At least as a diuretic it was more harmful to himself that a cheating performance enhancer like a steroid. Still, it's sad to see him make this kind of mistake while he's having a career year.
We'll update you if more details come out.

Gotta learn how to spell opportunity, I guess.
At least I didn’t use “your” for “you’re.”

I forgot to add (from the Jim Wyatt story linked above):
Jason Jones is coming back this week, so he was probably going to be inactive anyways…
Where I was raised 2 + 2 = 3rd and 6.
well
If he decided not to appeal so he would be available in the playoffs, kudos to him. I’ve only heard snippets about this from talking heads, but if those snippets were accurate I wouldn’t be surprised if the judge decides in favor of the appealing players.
Nah
Since the agreement was collectively bargained the players will never win out. I’m not saying I agree with that but unfortunately that is what will probably happen.
The PAIN TRAIN is comin baby!
They were talking on the radio this morning that there is a rumor
RUMOR that the league knew about the banned substance in the supplement and didn’t take any action to warn the players.
If that’s the case…..look out.

league will get the pants sued off them if that were the case
The way I understand it they knew and the “drug czar” of the NFL sent out a memo to all players informing them there had been changes in the formula of some diuretics but didn’t specifically name StarCaps or any other brand. That’s probably enough to get them off the hook.

the league keeps a list of supplement companys that are approved
and the approved supplements put “NFL approved” on the label.
I don’t see how any player taking non-approved supplements have a case.

See that's the rub though
They WERE NFL approved. However, they changed their formula without changing the label. But like I said above the players were notified via a memo but not about specific brands. Sounds like a royal cock up to me.
The PAIN TRAIN is comin baby!
The NFL says that they sent a memo to team trainers and the NFLPA
in 2006 when they put that company on their list of banned supplements/companys.

In addition, two notifications specifically mentioning Star Caps were sent on December 19, 2006. One was sent to the presidents, general managers, and head athletic trainers of all NFL clubs. The second was sent to Stacy Robinson, the NFLPA executive who oversees the Steroid Policy on behalf of the union. The letter to Robinson states that “Balanced Health Products, which distributes Star Caps, has been added to the list of prohibited dietary supplement companies. Please distribute this information to the agents and players through your normal channels.” In response, Robinson had Balanced Health Products added to the list of banned companies that is maintained on the NFLPA’s website.

Interesting
According to reports the NFL argued in court Friday to the contrary:
“NFL attorney Dan Nash argued that Lombardo had made a professional decision to warn players in general about diuretics rather than specifically about StarCaps.” (from an SI article)
Sounds like there is conflicting info floating around.
See that is what I heard as well
That is was completely general rather than Starcaps specifically.
Who knows what the truth is in regards to the “No Fun League”
Unfortunately for the players I don’t think the league can lose though.
