It's NFL Black Monday: New York Jets Fire Eric Mangini

This is the day every year when a handful of NFL coaches lose their jobs.  Here is the list so far:

Jets_medium Jay Glazer is reporting that the Jets have fired.  That was quite a fall for the Jets from the best team in the AFC just a few weeks ago.

Lions_medium  Rod Marninelli is out after his record breaking year in Detroit.

Browns_medium Romeo Crennel is out after a terribly dissapointing year in Cleveland.

Three out already.  More will surely follow.  The 49ers job will not be coming open because they hired Mike Singletary.  Hopefully we will see more of this over the next few years:

I don't get that either

And, I heard on the radio yesterday, that the Bengals have no intentions of firing him this offseason…

I heard

That the Bengals ownership doesn’t believe in firing someone before their contract is up. Not sure how true that is, but it’s what I heard.

I'm surprised about mangini.

Considering how many others are gonna be hitting the bricks, I think the Jets may’ve made a mistake. They’re gonna struggle to find a coach, IMHO.

What are they saying in NY? Is it Favre vs Mangini?

I can’t believe that they are blaming Mangini after Favre started reading his press after the Titan game.

I haven't listened to the radio today, so this actually came as a huge shock to me.

I’m a Giants fan more than a Jets fan, though I’ll confess to being a pretty big fan of Chad Pennington’s. So as far as I’m personally concerned, this last weekend sort of worked out. Favre sucked, Mangenius isn’t, and Chad was vindicated. That works for me.

BTW, in case nobody noticed, Pennington had a career year this year. In fact, I dare say that if the Titans had Chad Pennington as their QB, they’d have gone at least 14-2; he’s much, much more accurate than anybody on the roster now and has always been MONEY when backed by a solid running game. I don’t know if the Dolphins can beat Baltimore, but I expect it’ll be a good game. Their Defense isn’t bad, and they won’t turn it over.

Anywho, from what I’ve seen, Favre looks like he’s finally retiring—he’s supposed to have an MRI on his shoulder today. Beyond that, I will say that Herm Edwards always found a way to win at the end of the year. Mangini never could do that.

Chad would be a good fit for Titans

Good, efficient short to medium range passer, very accurate. Doesn’t stretch the field a whole lot, but Titans never have receivers stretching open down the field any way, so we don’t need that kind of a slinger.

Good question.

I think that he did. And anyway, the Dolphins new personel people are way, way, way too smart to let him walk away when he’s obviously the perfect guy for their system.

Dinger likes to be able to throw it up every now and then. My favorite passing plays they run are the Deep Ins they run with Gage.

Chad did fine when 'Dinger was his OC. No problems, really, until C. Martin retired.

i'd love chad to be a titan

he doesn’t posses the big arm, but he’s so accurate. its too bad we didn’t know vince was going to suck this year…

He should be fired, IMO

but I’d love for him to stay there so they’ll be sure to keep disappointing.

Yup

In looking at the schedule for next year, one of my first thoughts was that the Texans will be tougher than the Jags…

Actually

I think the only way we “keep the Schwartz with us” (too obscure?) is if only a few really icky jobs are open, or a few more reasonably good coaches get fired for no good reason to crowd up the job market. Otherwise, my bet is he gets a promo this time. Hopefully if that happens, the Titans can find a good DC candidate.

I think Schwartz is definitly gone

I think we will survive it… as long as Dinger doesn’t go too.

what about herm edwards

i know kc is rebuilding and starting a whole slew of rookies on d, and he’s had alot of qb’s injured, but has herm ever had a really good year with either the jets or the chiefs? they were absolutely awful this year against the run – and the pass for that matter…..
