Time to implement the Longhorn package
The Titans have had a great season so far, thanks in a large part to a strong running game and QB Kerry Collins getting the job done in clutch situations. But teams are starting to figure the offense out. The offense is beginning to struggle and needs a spark. Three weeks ago I would have been totally against this, but with what transpired Sunday in a loss at Houston, I think it is time to implement the LONGHORN PACKAGE. The Longhorn package features QB Vince Young in the shotgun formation. Using this formation two to three times a game would have several advantages including:
- It would give Defensive Cordinators something else to scheme for
- It would give a spark to the Titans offense
- It would ensure that Vince is ready when needed
- If Vince plays well from this package it would give them confidence in him if he had to replace an injured or struggling Collins
- It would help clear things up for the offseason, if Vince struggles we definitley would need Collins back
I know the Coaching staff has stated that they would not implement a package like this for Vince, but I think this could be the exact offensive spark the Titans must have if they are going to go deep in the playoffs.

Time?
It’s way past time. It’s criminal VY hasn’t been used in offensive packages regularly in close games this year.
If, for some reason, we fail to win a close playoff game and VY sits on the bench the entire game…and I can’t believe I’m saying this…Jeff Fisher will have a huge bullseye on his back heading into next year.
VY is too much talent to have sitting on the bench. Period.
2nde most dangerous ball carrier on the team
i would even like KC in shotgun with vy and cj on either side of him. vince and chris looking to run in the same back field would be deadly
Same thoughts
I was going to chime in with the same thing! Great minds think alike. Or drink too much beer on Sunday :)

If McCareins is so bad
You guys might as well stick VY in at receiver in place of him just for kicks. Vince wouldn’t make a good receiver since he’s never trained for the position, but it’d make everyone laugh and it’d be a nice, sound blow to McCareins ego.

i think VY would be a better reciever than McCairens.
Its not hard. Im probably better than McCairens too.
What's their deal?
What is the official reason for not putting VY in a package like that? Has anyone seen reporters asking the staff and what they say about it?
For F***’s sake, give the man a broom if you pay him millions per year. Those are HR basics.

I agree 100% Titan rob
I dont understand why they wont put in Vince Young, We have got to change it up a little. Im all for Kerry Collins but Vince young can make plays when it counts, we could have definitely used him against Houston.
Maybe the Titans really should switch
It seems to spark winning streaks for them ;).
I’m just joking, but it is a funny thing to observe. Put in VY in 2006? Reel off six straight victories. Collins in 2008? Reel off ten straight victories.
Seems like Tennessee likes to see fresh faces in there to shake things up.

It's because so much success in the NFL is derived from watching tape.
But when you bring a new guy in, a lot of that tape goes out the window.

Danno's right
A lot of both of their success had to do with the way the teams prepared. It’s two very different game plans with VY/KC under center.
Again, I think that’s another reason to give VY some snaps, or even start him. We have a 1st round bye in the bag, and some would argue that the #2 seed might be better in this years playoffs. With all that in mind, stir the pot, so when the playoffs roll around, teams don’t know who to game plan for…
After last week, they should start him.
It’s a simple equation. According to Fisher, KC started as long as he:
a. Played well.
b. Won games.
He hasn’t done either against a non-basement dweller in weeks and weeks.
