Tennessee Titans @ Houston Texans: My Thoughts

This game scares me a little bit.  The Texans have become a very good team.  The run they are on is a little like the run the Titans got on in 2006.  They aren't a playoff team, but nobody wants to play them right now.

The key to this game for the Titans is limiting the big play.  Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels and Steve Slaton are all big play guys.  Slaton had a couple of big runs in the first meeting, and he is the only back to get 100 yards against this defense all year.  You can bet the defense will remember that on Sunday.

Johnson was very quiet the first time these two teams met.  He managed just 2 catches for 29 yards but has 92 catches for 1,201 yards already this season.  Cortland Finnegan played great against him last time, and it doesn't worried me when Finny is lined up on his side.  I do get a little worried when he is line up on Nick Harper and mainly because of the bum ankle.

On offense the Titans just need to take care of the ball.  The Texans have struggled against the run this season, so I look to see a steady dose of both Smash and Dash.  LenDale has gotten a lot more carries in the last few games, and I think a lot of that is to save some of the wear on Crazy Legs.  This week should be more of the same.

I predict a Titans' win, but I don't think it will be as lopsided as the first meeting.  Titans 24-17

Turnovers

The Texans’ offense can move the ball, there’s no question. The passing game is as sound as it’s ever been and the ground game is finally starting to take shape. What concerns me as a Texans fan is turnovers. The Titans are among the best in forcing turnovers – the Texans are near the worst… that in itself is enough to have be buy the 20 pack instead of the 12…

If the Texans can keep from turning the ball over, they’ll make a game of it. But there is no way they can have another 4 turnover performance like they had in Green Bay and expect to win. Turnovers will be key.

I predict a nail biter, with the Texans eeking out a win, 24-20. Good luck boys.

Matt Schaub fears the Chain Gang

He’s not looking forward to this game. He knows he’ll get hurt again. Why risk his career on a non-playoff year. He will not perform well this Sunday but he will come out alive.

The Defense will not let Slaton get 100 yards again. Tulloch will be on him the whole game. My prediction is he will not get more than a 70 yards on Sunday.

If I were the Texans, i’d line up Johnson against Harper. Because if they don’t, Finnegan will shut him down the whole game.

My prediction is a blowout. Titans 31 – 10.

Go Titans!

This is a throw away the records game.

As usual, the Texans are surging at the end of the year and have dangerous weapons on offense that are getting in to a groove.

For the Titans to pull this one out we will need a steady dose of Slash and dash, and as Jimmy says limit the big plays on offense from Houston. The turnover battle is always big in this matchup but I like the way that our defensive line has been playing all year, and when you can get Schaub to force the ball early he hasn’t played well against the Titans.

I see a low scoring game, 13-6 Titans.

The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.

i agree with jimmy....

this texans team is much improved and will most certainly be in the wildcard mix next season. i think the titans win this one though – they can’t stop our running game. next year might be a different story if they have a good draft. i’m liking the power shift in the afc south – titans perennially on top, texans making it competitive with indy and jacksonville sucking….

if you think the colts are headed to the bottom next year

you need to learn something about football. as long as peyton is peyton, we will have to battler them every year for the division.
