"1" is the loneliest number
Well, here we are folks. Our magic number is 1. No matter if the Colts win out, as long as we win one more game, we will win in a tie-breaker!
In case some of you don't know the math, let me break it down -
At 12-4 records for the Colts and the Titans, the tiebreaker (at best for the Colts) would look like this:
Head-toHead = Tie (1-1)
Division Record = Tie (4-2),
Common Games = Titans (thanks to wins against the Bears and Packers)
Of course, if the Colts manage to lose their scrimmage against the Browns this weekend, we can begin to celebrate our dominance over the Division this Sunday!
But somehow I doubt that will happen... More than likely the Colts will play sub-par football for 58 minutes and let Peyton engineer the game-winning touchdown in the last two minutes to win the game so the homers over at StampedeNation can continue their campaign to anoint Peyton Manning MVP of the NFL.
Now, I'm sure we all knew by week 8 that we had essentially won the division, but when it officially happens (oh-so-very-soon), let's take the time to celebrate the achievement.
In the meantime, I invite everyone to enjoy this poster with me. It is our destiny.
D-E-N-I-E-D!

No doubt about it...
we are the best team in the AFC South this year…
and we will prove we are the best in the NFL
Go Titans!
Colts can tie the common games tiebreaker
if they beat the Browns and the Titans lose to the Browns and Steelers.
The Titans have to lose out, but the Colts could lose their game to the Bengals and still win on the 4th tiebreaker (conference record 9-3 to 7-5)

couldn't help myself from pointing out that Beans was wrong
even though the correction barely matters.

Sorry stud
But you are wrong. If we lose to the Browns and Steelers but win one more game, that means that we either beat the Texans or the Colts, giving us a 5-1 record in the division and winning the division… As I pointed out in the post, if the Titans get to 12-4, then we win the division no matter what tie-breaker you apply. It’s very cute that you think you proved me wrong, but you didn’t. Go do the math and get back to me. The post was about having a magic number of 1, not 0.

He did prove you wrong
Again, it really doesn’t matter too much, but the magic number is not quite 1.
Titans lose out (which shake says must happen)
Colts finish 4-1, losing to the Bengals. This doesn’t clinch it for the Titans.
First 3 tie-breaks are equal, and the Colts would win the 4th tie-breaker, which is Conference Record.
All shake said was if the Titans lose to the Browns and Steelers, we would tie the Common Opponent tie-breaker.
And yes, none of this matters if the Titans win 1 more game. I’m guessing they’ll get it done.
How can the colts lose to the bengals
And win the common opponent tiebreaker?
We have wins against the Bears, Packers and Bengals. Even if we lost to the Browns and the Steelers, we’d win the common opponent tiebreaker. What am I missing here?
what do you know
we are both wrong. The common games tiebreaker can be tied up (where you are wrong), but the Colts have to win out (where I’m wrong because I didn’t see the Bengals game on the Titans schedule) and the Titans lose out.
If that happened though the Colts would have a better record.

Just to clarify though.
We were not both wrong. Just want to make sure you acknowledge that.
Obviously, the NFL does not apply tiebreaker rules when one team has a better record than the other. There is no scenario where the common games tiebreaker would be applied. You can still win the division, however. Good luck with that. Hopefully, our offense can score against the Browns next week.

That is...
No scenario where the common games tiebreaker would be applied, and the Colts would win it.

Good Catch
I blame shake.
Either way, I don’t think it matters too much. It’s not going to come down to a tie breaker.
and I was looking at it wrong
each of the 3 individual tiebreakers could be tied up (how I was thinking about it), even any two of 3 after a Titans win, but a win in any of their last four will put one of the 3 out of reach.
