New York Jets @ Tennessee Titans: My Thoughts

The pressure on defense is the key to this game.  If the defensive line can get after Brett Favre, and I like their chances a lot better with Kyle Vanden Bosh playing, he will throw some balls up for grabs.  We all know what happens when quarterbacks throw the ball up for grabs against this secondary, but if they can't get after him it could be a long day for the Titans' secondary.  I think they will force at least 2 interceptions.

On offense running the ball will not be easy again this week.  Dinger is going to have to find different ways to get the ball to Chris Johnson.  The Jets D is really good against the run (4th in the NFL) but not so good against the pass (28th).  Since we have seen Kerry Collins win multiple games this season, I am not nearly as worried about those numbers as I was early in the season.

The scariest part about the Jets might be Leon Washington returning kicks.  Washington ranks second in the NFL in kickoff return average at just under 30 yards per return.  The Titans kick coverage team has been bad at times this season, but they did a great job against Devin Hester.  Hopefully they have figured out where they were getting gashed earlier in the season.

The Jets are a very good football team.  This game will be close until the 4th quarter, but I see the Titans pulling away to a 31-17 win.  Cortland Finnegan will get a pick 6 to put it on ice.

Always a chance for an upset.

But that word means “unexpected”. All stats and indicators, as well as the manner in which the Titans have won in the past lead me to believe the Titans will win this game. While everyone says that power rankings don’t matter, they do mean something – Most folks involved in the ranking process consider the Titans the best in the league.

Titans 24 Jets 10

My prediction last week came true so why not try for two in a row.

I've Been Suprised

To see so many anaylysts picking the Titans to lose this game. Everyone is aboard the Jets bandwagon since they barely squeaked out a win against New England.

Obviously, this is going to be a good game against two of the best teams in the AFC. But I just don’t see Brett Favre passing the ball up and down the field against this defense, Brett Favre will think “Hey, I’m Brett Favre I can do anything” which will lead to him taking chances, which will lead to him making some mistakes.

Not turning the ball over will be key – play the field position game, make Favre drive the long field, don’t give up the big play. I REALLY like our defense in this one and I think Crazy Legs will bounce back in a big way (in some facet whether it be rushing, recieving, or both). He has been shut down in the past few games but he is due to break one big this weekend.

Playing the game here in Nashville will be huge for us, Brett’s not familiar with the way things are done at LP Field, and he’ll have a reality check this weekend. Titans Win 27-17.

Media rule #1:

Never bet against Bret Favre. Ever. Not because he always win, but because he may shut you out of his 13th ’I’m coming back… again’ announcement.

Where I was raised 2 + 2 = 3rd and 6.

I imagine he's played in about 40 different venues

Including Arrowhead, the Oakland one, and the Seahawks one that was designed to focus noise on the field.

The only team he hasn’t beaten is the Packers.

Jimmy's right

We need more ways to get the ball to Chris. I still think the wildcat is a good idea. Maybe line him up in the slot and give him a reverse or a couple of screens. Might not get a ton of yards, but it’s time we made defenses respect something besides just handing the ball off to Chris.

Titans 27 Jets 17

I'd be a lot more worried if KVB weren't playing.

Regardless of Favre’s performance, the Jets have lived and died this season on the strength of their running game. When they can run the ball, teams get a lot less pressure on Favre, and he can make some plays. As we know well, running the ball is often its own beneficial result. That said, the past few weeks have seen the Titans’ D getting gashed by the run, especially early in games. But with KVB back, I think that ends on Sunday. I was liking Jones to rush for about 90, but with KVB back, I’m gonna dial that back to about 65. Which is when this starts to turn ugly.

I like the Titans to get up by about 10 in the first half and then start collecting mistakes as Favre tries to create something from nothing in the second half. Like Jimmy, I see Finnegan getting another INT for 6 this weekend.

Final score: Titans 31, Jets 10

You're right...

if we get up 2 possessions Brett will start giving Finnegan and Griffin sure-fire tickets to the Pro Bowl.

Yeah, I had noticed that.

I was surprised how little traffic they get, compared to the Giants site.

Yeah...

to bad, John B did a great game preview

That was an excellent preview

That site is still pretty new. It takes a while for people to find the site. I am sure they will have it going before too long.

31 to 24 titans

is my pool entry. couple of tds by jets offense, a runback for a td, a field goal.

collins lights it up again for a couple or three td passes, plus some running tds and/or a pick 6.

lots of titans players will be getting Brett’s autograph. hopefully the d also takes a chunk of his hide home with them.

by numbertenox on Nov 21, 2008 3:43 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

biggest thing to watch is KVB's return

besides that, turnovers and pass protection for collins will decide the outcome of the game. jersey b’s bad pass defense is weakest against TE’s and RB’s, so i like scaife and chris johnson to see 8-10 passes a piece. hopefully they stop throwing passes that get cj lit up by a line backer as soon as the ball gets there, because that has been happening WAY to often recently. hopefully we will see bad favre (3+ picks) on sunday, and if we do, i like the titans in a rout. im going with 31-17

My prediction...

we bled a little bit because of our cornerback issues and leon washington but we still won because Smash & Dash showed that their run D is not that good and Crumpler was open the whole game. Titans 31 -21.

Go Titans!

by Pinoy Titan on Nov 21, 2008 10:38 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i'll be happy either way...

i’ve got a feeling though that the Jets will pay extra attention to Scaife leaving Crumpler open most of the time.

Go Titans!
