Titans 19 Packers 16 Quick Recap: Wrong Never Felt So Good
Well for the first time all season my preseason prediction about a game was wrong, and you know what, I am ok with that. That was a big win. 8-0 with a 5 game lead over at least Jacksonville and Houston is a good place to be. This is the toughest stretch the Titans will face this season, and starting it with a win is huge.
Even though I said they should run the ball a couple more times, I knew Rob Bironas wouldn't miss a game winner twice. I was shocked he missed the first one.
Bad day by the passing game, but that was to be expected going against the Packers secondary. What I didn't expect to see was Kerry Collins put the ball in the air 37 times.
This week we will take a look at all of the positions at the halfway point. August will have links in the morning, and I will have a full recap later in the day.
Enjoy 8-0. You can also use this thread to discuss the Colts/Patriots game tonight. This is something I never say, but Go Patriots!

My quick thoughts:
-Collins was lucky not to have another 2 picks against him in this game. His passes seemed off all game, until the fourth quarter where he made a pair of big connections to get us into field goal range.
-Once again, we did a good job of shutting down the primary reciever, but at the cost of a big game by a secondary reciever.
-Defense was bend but don’t break all game, and was tremendous in the second half when they kept coming up with big stops despite the fact that they were on the field half the game.
-Defensive endurance was the key in this one. You could see what happened to GBs defense when we got them on the field for long back-to-back drives. The Titans defense did that all game, but never broke down the way GB’s did.
-White has to be given credit for his huge run in the first half which led to our only TD. Johnson was once again the workhorse for the offense.
-This was a game that I thought we had a pretty high chance of losing given the disparity of rest between the two clubs and the quality of Green Bay’s team. We were tested, but we passed, if only by the skin of our teeth. Good job guys.

sign of a good team
i thought that the whole team and coaching staff had a mediocre game today. with that said, they came up with big plays when they needed them and still managed to beat a very good packers team.

Can someone explain to me
The logic of kicking on 3rd and 1?
Let’s assume that Bironas makes that kick 90% of the time.. If you get 20 yards closer he can make the kick in his sleep. Lendale rarely fumbles, and you are almost guaranteed the 1st down when you run with him.
There is no good reason to kick in that situation. Luckily, the decision did not cost us the game.
Also, what were they doing at the half? Faking a 63-yard field goal? Just make the kick; if there’s anything Bironas has earned, it’s a shot at a record-distance kick. I don’t worry that the kick will come back for a TD, it’s not Devin Hester in the end zone.
Thoughts, anyone?

it's the theory of a bad snap and you can do it again....
although I’ve never seen that happen in my life. As for the end of the half situation, I don’t mind them not kicking it, but throw a hail mary at least.

that doesnt make sense though
since they let the clock run down to 4 seconds. if they were playing for a bad snap then they should have left a little more time on the clock. in this case they kinda got stuck in no mans land.

that must be it
bad snap and you do it again.

agreed on all points
i thought the clock managment in the last minute of the game was horrendous. definitely should have ran on third down with so much time left. also, not calling timeout around the 1 minute mark on 2nd and 2 and letting 20 seconds run off for an incompletion was bad (had all 3 timeouts at that point).
the 63 yarder…i was just confused. i watched the game at a bar so i didnt have sound, so i had no idea what was going on in that play.

maaan.
if we had gone for it bro…they would have swamped up the middle with a high percentage of makeing us lose a couple yards..that said, we took r shot when the going was good=win. you really wanna argue wit a win…8 n 0…?

Why do you say that?
High percentage of losing yards? I can’t remember ever seeing Lendale get negative yardage on a short run.
Not arguing with the win, obviously – but if Bironas had missed the second kick what do you think people would be saying about the decision to kick on 3rd and 1?
As far as I am concerned I have yet to hear a good reason for the play call. Anybody else have a theory?

I can't think of a good reason
but it really doesn’t matter.

Fisher wanted a confidence builder for Bironas.

I've heard....
that the Cannon Guy was in the stadium getting ready to shoot it. Fisher went for the early kick before the guy can set up.

i almost think....
we should be going for the Colts. With the Bills loss and Pitt with a tough one tomorrow, we have a shot a 3 game lead over the AFC. I think the division is a lock, it’s time to start looking at the playoffs and positioning there.

Today has me doing several things I rarely do.
Pulling for the Patriots, Cowboys and Cincinnati. This felt like Titan’s football. Hard hitting football that causes me to have coronary failure.

NOW would somebody explain to me why Brandon Jones isn't our #1 receiver?
Gage had another nice drop, Jones was basically making catches that no one else on our receiving corps is capable of.
Brandon Jones should be the the #1 guy, but as long as they are throwing to him I guess that’s all that matters.
Tulluch also had another amazing game, and let’s see a lot of Lendale next week, CJ needs a rest after today.

I think that should be clear for Fish and 'Dinger
Brandon is making plays, and he seems to be the only one who can catch Kerry’s erratic throws lately.
It took me some time to forgive Brandon for costing us that game against the Colts last year, but he has redeemed himself completely. It’s hard to argue with his success.

Wow, what a game. I am GLAD to be wrong as well
I picked the Pack to win, but I am glad the Titans pulled it out. Whew !!
I had to leave mid 4th quarter, I recorded the game in high def and will watch the rest later. Collins did not look great today throwing the ball. He looked much better against the Colts. Gage looked terrible once again and I think it is time to start someone else. Had he hung onto a couple of passes it may have changed the scoring in the first half. Who knows? Anyway, Congratulations and great game by the O line.

Cause I am tired of the TV people talking about the Giants.
It should be all Titans all the time ;-)

They need to start Jones and McCareins with The Hawk in the slot.
Much as I think McCareins isn’t all that good, he’s been making key catches. And The Hawk actually catches EVRYTHING they throw at him. There’s the makings of a good team in there, but they sure as Hell haven’t quite sorted it out yet.
BTW, KC looked TERRIBLE all game. I was totally ready to put in VY in the 4th QTR.

I went and watched the last part of the game I had missed and it looked
like Kerry Collins got it together finally and was throwing accurately when it counted most. He looked inconsistent throughout much of the game. I do wish he could get some TD passes to his credit. His overall numbers were better than I expected. 180 passing yards, not bad.
The Packers have a great team. Donald Driver looks like a superhero, his face is so intimidating. Titans did well to get the win.

It seems like Collins plays better from behind.
When the Titans lost the lead in the first half, White got the big run and Collins threw a nice pass to get it close and I believe Jones took it in from there.
Then in the last part of the game he drove them down the field with consistent passing again.
I don’t like playing from behind, but at least it shows he is capable of bringing them back.

i think it's more that the other team gets gassed
ravens, colts, packers all have crumbled on defense in crunch time. it speaks volumes of how physical this team plays.

It's also the play-calling.
‘Dinger was obviously scared of throwing deep yesterday. And I don’t blame him; that Packers secondary is good; there was no good reason to throw at those guys yesterday. That said, towards the end of the half—bpth times—Dinger opened up the playbook a little with good success.
Overall, I thought it was a good game plan, but I agree with Jimmy, that a bigger dose of the running game with LenDale earlier in the game would have helped.
