Some Love for Titans' Return Man Chris Carr
A lot of people, myself included, were very down on Chris Carr when this season started, but them something happened, Carr got good, really good in fact. He is currently 5th in the NFL in kickoff return average at 27.6 yards per return. He makes quick decisions and hits the hole with authority. That is the difference between him and Chris Henry, well and the fact that Henry couldn't see the hole if it was there.
The field position battle is very important for a team that plays the style of football that the Titans play. Last season they were always behind the 8 ball because of bad kickoff returns. That is not the case this season and that is because of Carr. He also does a good job of taking care of the ball.
This is a short post, but it is time that we gave Carr some love for his contributions to this 9-0 start.

Right or wrong, though, he’ll never get the credit he deserves until he takes one to the house…

That is why I gave him some credit
He will break one before the year is over.

A TD this weekend would be nice too. In the game Sunday a special teams TD
could be the deciding factor.

Chris Henry
I have just received word that Chris Henry has filed a petition with the NFL to allow him to use a seeing eye dog while on the football field…

Did you crack yourself up writing that one?

YEs
You know how I like to run jokes into the ground
Also in a recent interview when Chris Henry was asked who his 3 biggest inspirations were he replied “Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Helen Keller”

I wouldn't slobber over him that much Jimmy
Chris hasn’t returned as many kicks as the average returner in the league (the Titans only give up 13 points a game).
He’s been average in my opinion. I wouldn’t give him love, just maybe tell him he’s a hard worker.
He’s no Joshua Cribbs, Leon Washington, Devin Hester, or even Maurice Jones-Drew. The Titans should let Chris Johnson mix in a few returns especially as we get close to the playoffs.

Why is there any reason to believe
he would do worse with more opportunities?

Given the performance of every returner we've had not named Mason or 'He Who Shall Not Be Named'
‘average’ is pretty outstanding.

With more returns.....
his stats would average out to a lower ranking. If he really is that good, he would be recognized as a threat. I don’t think opposing teams gameplan to kick away from him.
You could put Chris Davis back there and get the same result. The Titans special teams blocking has got to be above average if it’s consistent with their overall play. An upgrade might be Lavelle Hawkins…… now there’s a thought.

The stat above is just average yards per return
Still not sure how that would go down.

look at NFL.com kick return stats
His longest return is 52 yards in which he ranks 20th in the league for longest return. If he increased his returns by say 30%, it’s a sure thing his average would go down until he shows the ability to break a longer run. Look at Brandon Middleton’s stats for the Broncos as an example to what I’m saying.
52 yards is not a long run considering Lendale White has had longer this year.

As a side note
Carr and Hester have about the same stats for kick returns this year

Carr ranks 23rd in avg punt return yardage
Carr’s punt return avg is 10.4.
As a dual returner, he’s yet to produce a touchdown. He’s consistent with the wide receiver play. Average with no ability to break long ones.

I see your point PSP...
Me personally, I want to see CJ do some of the KRs. He did well in college.
Go Titans!

PSP
The fact that is longest return is only 52 yards actually proves Jimmy’s point even more. He doesn’t have a long one to skew his return average. I would agree that he is no Deving Hester, he is consitently giving the Titans an extra 5-10 yards on average.
