Ask Big Cat Country
Hola, John from Big Cat Country here.
Ask anything you feel might be relevant to the game on Sunday. Hopefully it'll be a good one as they usually are. While Kerry Collins is getting a lot of praise as of late with his heroics against Chicago, do you feel it should be tempered a bit considering it came against a team that had to rally to beat Detroit. (Yes, I realized we lost to the Bungles.)

I don't think it should be tempered at all
The Bears D is very tough. As is always said before playing a poor team such as Detroit “watch out for the trap game”. If Kerry hadn’t busted Chicago it would have been our running game. That is a choice that Del Rio and his coaching staff have probably been struggling with this week. Do we stack the box and stop the run or do we stay in coverage and hope we can contain them. You’re right though; we should definitely see a good game as always on Sunday. Good luck to your guys in staying healthy but I can’t go so far as to wish them a win! heh
Now I got a question for you. What really happened in the locker room last week. Are the players starting to turn on Del Rio at all after that? I realize a win cures all ills since you beat Detroit but if you were to fall to the Titans this weekend do those issues rear their head again?
Thanks for doing this by the way!

Also one more
What is the deal with Matt Jones? Is he ever going to get suspended? I know all appeals have to be wrapped up by week 12 so does it come to that I guess?

Jones is currently appealing the ruling, and I'm amazed its been taking this long.
I felt Tsar Goodell was way too harsh with the penalty. It was the first time Matt had any incident and managed to get it straightened out without having to go to court. Either way, he’s become the best receiver this team has had since Jimmy Smith hung it up so every week we have him I’m not complaining.

Mike Peterson has been complaining since training camp about his contract
And has gone from a guy who I feel has been snubbed from at least 2 Pro Bowls because of Jacksonville’s market to a bad middle linebacker this season. He hasn’t played up to snuff this season and has found himself out of position constantly. The incident last week was the last straw, and Daryl Smith played lights out last week. Linebacker is probably the deepest position on the team and it looks like Del Rio finally lit a fire under their collective asses.

How is the Jags fanbase looking at David Garrard this season?
Also, what do you guys think of Gregg Williams to this point, in terms of both personality and production as the D coordinator?
Just curious…

The way Garrard has been playing as of late
There hasn’t been a QB more valuable to this team than Brunell during the 96 run. As for Gregg Williams, this team blew 5 4th quarter leads in a row to start the year, and the game against Detroit was the first time all season a QB hasn’t made a case to start the Pro Bowl against us. I’ll leave the rest up to you.

On Gregg Williams
Do you think that it has to do more with Del Rio sticking his head in there (since his specialty is defense)? Usually Gregg has had a pretty positive effect on the defense wherever he goes.

It's alot of things
As I said with Peterson. The MLB, for all intensive purposes, is the QB of the Defense in Gregg Williams playbook. Mike hasn’t been making the reads and its been hurting us. It’s also to some degree coaching and play calling. Good example, the all out blitz we sent on 3rd and a mile week 1 that lead to you guys getting that huge screen pass. Also, the Jags don’t have the kind of pass rush needed for Gregg William’s defense. Alot of people criticized Mike Smith for using the Tampa 2 defense almost exclusively, but hey, Atlanta might be a Wild Card team this year so maybe he knew something.

Wow. And here I was thinking that Williams was gonna be a head coach soon.
If you guys get tired of Williams, I bet the Titans would take him back in a heartbeat when Schwartz leaves next year.

He screwed up his first chance to be head coach...
…in Buffalo. And nobody has hired him to be HC again.

But that's not exactly an uncommon occurance.
I mean, even Bill Belicheck is on Head Coaching gig #2, no?

I know that, but I think it’s telling that it has been this long. Usually shot #2 comes within a few years, not 7 and counting.
He keeps getting interviews, but not jobs, and the next wave of younger coordinators has already started getting their first HC slots over him.

True enough.
But there are some BAD football teams out there. I think he’d be an upgrade for the Lions, Chargers, and maybe the Vikings. And who knows who else.

Williams has built-up a rep for being an incredible a**hole.
He was blasted in the Washington press for his perceived arrogance…
That being said, the man can flat coach a defense.

Yeah, and he'd be a DC somewhere if it weren't for Bledsoe getting hurt in 01

Do you think
that the Jags have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs? Also, do you think the Titans can win the Super Bowl?
by thawardasa on Nov 12, 2008 4:43 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Not really to be honest
We’d have to go 6-1 the rest of the way to have a realistic chance of going to the playoffs, and I don’t see that happening. Sure the Titans can win the Super Bowl. The thing is though, the overwhelming favorite to come out of the NFC is the Giants again. In a game like that, you had better hope Chris Johnson and Lendale White are having an affect, because if you have to go to the air every play, Kerry Collins is going not going to win a Super Bowl.

is there any way the jags are making the playoffs?
their last 7 games are BRUTAL. at 4-5 your are at least needing to go 6-1 to get to 10-6. with games left against the titans, colts, ravens, vikings, bears, packers and texans, it looks like a damn tough road to 10-6

Jags fans
The last time I went to Alltell – actually I think it’s like something different now – I witnessed David Garrard’s first NFL pass (an interception by the late great Samari Rolle). I stood up and started going nuts in my Eddie George jersey and was absolutely ripped to shreds by the fans … I’ve been to a lot of football stadiums … but I have never seen anyone as nasty as a pissed off Jags fan ….. what is the mentality there now with a losing record ? Do you agree the home base is pretty brutal?

I can't say anything for other fans
But part of it is a great majority of Jags fans were or are fans of the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, or Miami Hurricanes. 3 of those 4 programs believes its there God given right every year to win a national title. This translate into Jaguars fans much the same way. The fact we had the best run of any expansion team didn’t help our expectations much.
