can we use vy and kc?

after watching ronnie brown running the single wing/wildcat/wildhog/wilddolphin, and even seeing the texans run a play or two from that formation, it got me thinking of us using vy in that position.  he is definitely a good enough runner, and i'm sure he can throw better than ronnie brown (i hope).  it even turns the tables and makes him a run first quarterback, which plays to his strengths, and will maybe remind him what got him to the league in the first place. anyways, just a thought.

disclaimer: i am not in anyway advocating benching kc for vy.  as long as we're winning, the only way vince should start is if collins gets hurt or has 3 or 4 terrible games in a row (the 3 - 4 interception, 100 yard variety).  with that said, i think using vince in spots could add a dimension to the offense and maybe get him back in the flow a bit.  of course having vy rush the ball could get him hurt, but at least we have chris simms...oh wait.

Fisher

said on NFL Network today that they were going to give Vince a few packages to look over on the bye. He then said imagine if they were both on the field at the same time.

i would love to see that

vince is too good of an athlete to keep off the field – he just isn’t a pocket passer. that would really give a great dynamic to our offence.

Eh... I don't know.

It would be interesting. I mean, you could run a reverse with VY out of the slot and create HAVOC. That’s good. But creating QB controversy, getting him injured, or taking him out of the QB mindset are not things I would advocate.

I don’t want to turn VY into Kordell Stewart. I think he’s a better player than that.

I would like to see it

I don’t care about his mindset. I wanna win football games. His mindset is already shot anyway. I would think they would only run plays with him coming in at QB. I think fish was messin when he said something about throwing him a fade.

Dang

Good to hear from you. I agree about Fish messin about the fade, but I could see some dual QB sets. I think that would be an awesome idea. Collins, VY, and CJ all three in the backfield… what the heck could they do?

I wouldn't mind seeing it.....

With both those guys back there we could do some direct snap stuff to Vince and they’d never know what hit em. Could be interesting! I agree that Vince is too good of an athlete to be on the bench.

Come on!

If they line up VY and KC and CJ in the same backfield, everybody in the stadium would be looking for the direct snap to VY for either a run or a short slant to Bo Scaife. Hell, the REAL trick play in that situation would be to either:
 - Snap it straight to CJ with VY acting as a fullback, or
 - Snap it to KC and have him throw the quick out to Justin Gage.

But neither of those plays is actually smart. First, having VY block is idiotic, even if he proves to be good at it. And second, if you snap to KC in that situation, you’re still asking VY to block out of the backfield, which is dumb, or you’re wasting a player.

If you’re gonna do it, you line VY in the slot or motion him out of the backfield into the slot. I think most teams would be looking for the reverse to VY to set up a throw in that spot, but it’d still be tough to defend because Vince is always good in the run/pass option on the outside. Alternatively, you can just havce Vince run a route.

But then you’ve turned him into Kordell Stewart, which I still think is not smart. Because, bottom line, it’s dumb not to give him a chance to compete for the starting QB’s job next season, especially since he’s already got guaranteed money for that season. Moreover, even if he’s only playing back-up, at $2.1M, that’s a reasonable back-up’s salary next year. And hey! KC is not a young guy. Simms has an injury history. VY plays a very physical game that makes him vulnerable to injury. So no matter who your starter is next year, your back-up is almost certainly going to play at some point. It’s probably a good idea to go ahead and plan for that now.

Not necessarily on VY blocking

If we use VY as a receiver coming out of the backfield on something quick to get him in space it may be worth it

You can just

use him as a spot QB like Ohio State did at 1st with Terrell Pryor. He can come in on like 3rd and 5 and give the other team a lot more to worry about.

Using him at WR or HB or FB is just crazy.

I don't see why not, just not right now.

I like Vince Young, but just think Kerry Collins is just what the team needs right now. He’s done a great job so far, and I don’t think he will get us beat or anything like that. Vince is the future, but Kerry Collins is the present. Right now, he’s MVP of the team.

A little something I put together on YouTube for Titans fans to enjoy:
