Why You Should be Happy We Didn't Get Roy Williams
First, lets note that Roy Williams has only 1 year with more than 850 yards, and only 1 year with more than 64 catches. Both of those feats came during the 1 year he had passing guru Mike Martz as his offensive coordinator.
This year, he's been pouting and dropping easy passes, so lets not call him a high character/lead by example type of guy.
For that production, the Cowboys gave-up their 2009 first-round, third-round and sixth-round picks, plus a seventh-round pick in 2010.
Then there's the contract via PFT:
Per Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Williams’ five-year extension with his new team is worth $45 million. The contract also includes $20 million in guaranteed money.
But while the Cowboys were careful not to pay Williams more per year than T.O., Williams still got a better contract, with $7 million more in guaranteed money and a longer overall term.
Um, I think we'll spend that 9 million a year (never-mind all of those draft picks) on players who have earned it, thank you.

While I don't agree with the trade
And wouldn’t want the Titans to give up that much in the draft. He would be a huge upgrade at WR. I’d be OK with Tennessee paying that kind of cash for a player like Williams in Free Agency. Let’s not forget that he was in Detroit…we shouldn’t expect eye popping numbers.

Agreed on the stats
plus he’s been clearly the no.2 since Calvin Johnson got comfortable in the pros in 2005, but 9 million a year is almost twice what Haynesworth is making this year with the franchise tag…
There’s no WR on earth not named Randy Moss who is worth that much, IMO.

Umm... I think Big Al is making $7.45M this season.
That said, I doubt that R. Williams will EVER be worth more to any team than Big Al is to the Titans. For that matter, it’s already proven that Big Al’s presence can pretty much make ANY defense a whole lot better.

The Tennessean covered Big Al's franchise tag in detail.
Beyond the Titans, I rarely care what these guys make.
Dallas is the NY Yankees of football. And the Yankees sucked this year. In fact, they haven’t been really good in a long, long time despite the payroll. It’s because they destroyed their farm system—repeatedly—to get whoever the Flavor of the Month was. That’s where Dallas is headed.

I don't think the argument about Albert applies here
Regardless of whether it’s 7.5 or 5 mil for Albert, because he clearly isn’t being paid what he’s “worth”. The market will dictate that number this offseason.

Feels wierd to say this but...
I trust our front office. I think they will find receivers for us in the draft. I also believe that it’s possible that one of the receivers (Fly Hawk Fly!) on our team will step up to be what we need. I don’t believe we need a Roy Williams because we’re not that kinda team offensively. A Mason would be good enough for us.

WR is the deepest Free Agent Position in 2009
Of course Titan fans should be happy they didn’t get Williams, especially at the steep price. Nobody but a desperate Jerry Jones would pay that.
Here is a list of Free Agents after this season, headed by TJ Houshmanzadeh and Lee Evans. There are also some pretty good mid-level guys, that won’t demand the pay day that Housh and Evans will.
Plus there is always great talent at WR late in the first round, which is most likely where the Titans will end up next year. You definitely don’t need Roy Williams.

I'd pay Houshmavuacyqoewcha really, really good money...
he’s the 2nd most wel-rounded, consistent WR in football behind Hines Ward. I think Fisher and ’Dinger would love him.

Hines Ward
rules. half korean too! same as my kiddies. TJ whoseyomama would be a great pickup. But now we are fantasizing about the Titans grabbing a star FA wr, about the same level of futility as fantasizing about them picking one in the first round of the draft…

He also will help your QB's Completion %
As he has pretty good hands, and is a big receiver.
Is there enough money to sign both Haynesworth, plus someone like Housh? I’d assume he’d get at least what Williams got, which was 7/45 (I think) with $20 million guaranteed.

Free Agent WRs
Lee Evans has already been re-signed in Buffalo and talk out of Cincy is the Bengals will franchise Housh and hope to trade him for a 1st round pick. Also you can check player salaries at Rotoworld.com. The Titans will need every dollar they have as Haynesworth has just about reached his incentives to not be franchised again next year – He will almost definitely command 10mil plus per year on the open market.

If the Boys didn't have extra picks then I would've said they paid too much
but I think they still have 9 or so even after this trade. One thing that’s not being noted is that the guy is only 26 so barring injury he should be in the league for a while. Looking at the guy’s stats you’d say he had been all that productive but in his defense the Lions hadn’t ever had much of a run game much less a qb. I put the eyeball test to use and he looks good to me. I’m up in the air about Housh because he’s had the luxury of playing with a great qb and another good wr on the other side, so this limits the double teams. How would he hold up as a #1? Is he a gamebreaker?
