Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Open Thread: Tennessee Titans vs. Washington Redskins

Gameday is finally upon us.  It has been a long 8 1/2 months since the Titans last took the field against the New England Patriots.  Today a new season starts with a preseason game against the Washington Redskins.

Typically you don't learn much from a 1st preseason game.  That will not be true for tonight's game.  The Titans have battles going on at so many positions (receiver, corner, free safety, middle linebacker, running back) that it will be a fun game to watch.  If a guy can step up and make a play at any of these positions it will go a long way towards keeping him on the roster or making him a starter come opening day.

Here is what you need to know:

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.  The game will be televised locally on UPN 30 and nationally on the NFL Network.  The game can be heard on 103.3 in the middle Tennesse area.  You can view the Titans' press release (PDF) here.  It has more information than you could ever possibly need.

The 1st team offense will likely play into the 2nd quarter.  LenDale White will get the start at running back.  Brandon Jones and Eric Moulds will be your starting receivers.

On defense it looks as if Ryan Fowler will get the start at MLB.  Calvin Lowry is expected to start at free safety.  If the introduce the defense at the stadium tonight expect him to get a huge ovation.  I am not sure who will start at corner opposite Nick Harper but I expect it to be Cortland Finnegan since Reynaldo Hill might not play because of a groin injury.

Other who are not playing for the Titans include Benji Olso, Mike Otto, Andre Woolfolk and Travis LaBoy.  Neither Clinton Portis nor Chris Samuels are expected to play for the Redskins.

For the Redskins perspective on the game check Hogs Haven and The Washington Times.

I hope to be around the computer for most of the game.  Hopefully some of you will be as well so we can get some good discussion going in the comments.  If you are not able to watch the game, you can keep an eye on the discussion to know what is going on.  I will have a full recap either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Update [2007-8-11 19:49:2 by Jimmy]:As mentioned by Titansfanatic in the comments, Vince Young has been suspended for tonight's game after violating a team rule. It was not clear what he did. That is not good. We really need him to play to get in rhythm with the new guys.

Nice play
by Vincent Fuller.  He will be the starting nickle if Finnegan is a starting corner.

White's D Line
is looking good.  Sack and forced fumble by Tony Brown.

Finnegan looks pretty good as a punt returner there.

It doesn't
appear that Bironas has much to worry about.

Tennessean reported
that Vince stayed at home last night instead of the hotel--violating curfew.

Silly.  Come on Vince.

Go Titans!

Hopefully
this is just one stupid event and they will move on.  This doesn't need to be something that drives a wedge between Fisher and Vince.

The whole Defense
Is looking pretty good to me.

Also, I am real impressed with how Chris Henry runs. I look forward to see him run behind the 1st team O-line.

He won't
be on the roster opening day.
