Around SBN: Dolphins knock off Rams; get back into playoff race Bar-right-arrows

Steelers Sitaution

As of now, playoffstatus.com has in order for us to beat the Steelers, they will need to lose out.

I think that this may be incorrect.  The reason they probably have this is because Strength of Victory cannot be determined until the season is over.

Anyway, onto the math.

Assuming we beat the Jets and Colts and they lose to the Ravens, our conference records will be the same, and our common opponents record will both be 2-3.

Now onto strength of victory.  Currently, we have beaten teams with a combined win total of 48.  Assuming we beat the Jets and the Colts, our win total will be 62.

They have beaten teams with a combined win total of 53.  Assuming they beat the 3-11 Rams and lose to the Ravens, their win total will be 56.

However, it must be mentioned that these numbers are not final until the end of the season, and can very easily change.  It could turn out that if the Steelers lose in week 17, we could also be hoping for some teams that we have beaten to win and some teams that they have beaten to lose, this way our Strength of Victory will remain higher than theirs.

Just a thought

Yeah....
....so much is still to be decided in that tiebreaker that is impossible to come close to predicting.

Big Game
I think our biggest problem is going to be that Tony Dungy has come out and said that he will not rest any of his starters heading into the playoffs. So that game against the Colts is going to be a tough one.

And yet the Raiders nearly beat the Colts...
...using a strong running game and a QB with less than half of VY's talent.  Personally, I think this is a game the Titans can win, starters or no starters.  They match up well with the Colts and have for a while, and Marvin Harrison is out.  That leaves you with the ability to cheat towards Reggie Wayne, which is what a lot of teams have been doing.

Plus, I just cannot see Dungy risking an injury to Bob Sanders through four full quarters.  Not when the back he's got to stop REPEATEDLY is 240 lbs.  That just doesn't make sense.

He didn't say....
....they would play the whole game, however.  His point was that he couldn't just shut them down fully for 2 weeks and expect them to be ready to go for the playoffs.  I think they play a half and that is all.

No doubt
I never said I thought we couldn't beat them. I just said it's our biggest problem.
