Another Shaky Monday

Reading comments in other diaries, here's what I have to say about the Young/Collins situation.

Full disclosure, I'm one of the guys who think we'd have won the Super Bowl if O'Donnell had been QB'ing that final drive. [ducks]

First, Kerry Collins has been in the NFL for over a decade. You don't do that without talent and skill. That being said, Young is in no danger of losing his starting job.

All you have to do is look at the red zone offense. Collins is a better pure passer, at this time, than Young. He's tons more accurate with the long ball and effectively processes his reads. What he can't do is get it in the end zone. He's one-dimensional. Absolutely NO threat to run. It's hard to pass with a shortened field.

Say what you want (Kat) about Vince's passing, the bottom line is Vince CAN pass. He can also run. Fast. Collins' final drive was a thing of beauty, but we didn't get into the end zone. Again.

I'm willing to bet that drive wouldn't have been necessary if Young had been QB. If we'd been able to score touchdowns three of those eight times we kicked FG's, the game would have been out of reach regardless of what the defense did or didn't do. VY would have scored three times. Easy.

Now, onto the defense.

Star-divide

The defense was a huge fourth-quarter disappointment for the second time in a row.

We had them beaten, physically and mentally by the third quarter. Those Texan O-linemen had their toungues dragging the ground. Rosenfels should have been getting sacked on a regular basis in the 4th. Instead, he pulled off a huge comeback and took the (quite substantial) lead away from us.

To me, this indicated a lack of discipline. I'm not just pointing to the players, either. The coaches are to blame as well. If they start calling soft prevent defenses, the players react by lightening up. Still, it's the players who play the game, I put most of it on them at this time.

If they don't get the practice from hell this week, then it's on the coaches. Ultimately, they're in charge, and need to motivate their players to play the whole game.

Griffin was a beast on special teams. We really need more Griffin!

Please explain to me
how O'Donnell would have gotten the Titans into the end zone on that drive.

Wasted Time
Steve wasted too much time running around trying to make something happen when he should have thrown the ball or otherwise stopped the clock.

O'Donnell would have managed the clock better. This is just my opinion, of course, but I was thinking that the whole time that drive was going on.

I respect
your Opinion Rustmeister.

but look at it this way, McNair needed to run around to by time for his WR's to get open.  O'Donnell would have been sacked.  which would have kept the clock going. HENCE rendering your theory moot.

At least with McNair's running around the WR got open and the ball was moved down field.

We lost that Superbowl because of two facts.  Injury in the secondary caused (can't remember his name) to come in and he tripped over his own two feet that lead to the go ahead TD.

Second fact that happened was Mike Jones out of place but lucky to be in the right place. Jones was suppose to have gone with Frank on that play, but he messed up and was lucky enough to get just enough on dyson to take him down.

It was Dorsett
F'n Dorsett.

Just speaking his name makes me throw up in my mouth.

Kind of like the name "Ben Hartsock."

Drop another pass Ben.

Go Titans!

Cool
So many things could've happened. I'm just ready for us to get back in it.

Understand, I'm forced to relive the Titan's loss every Christmas when my rich cousin from St. Louis comes down with Rams gear for all the kids.

She's lucky she's family....

Yeah
She's also pushin' 60. And she's not rich. Not that rich, anyway. :-)
