I was just curious are any Titans fans on here NBA fans?
I feel very lucky that since I live in Memphis, I have 2 great Pro Sport teams to root for in the Titans and Grizzlies.
The last 3 years (how long I have lived in Memphis) the Grizzlies have been a really fun bunch to watch. It all started 3 years ago with Hubie Brown. He was different as a coach. Played 10 players regularly and valued hustle and selfishness. That was epitomized by the play of Memphis favorite, Shane Battier.
Hubie had to quit because of health reasons. Now we have Mike Fratello as the coach.
The Griz made the playoffs the last 3 years, but lost all 12 playoff games. The first playoff game in Memphis was the most exciting basketball game I have ever been too.
Pau Gasol is the Grizzlies premier player. He is, in my opinion, one of the 3 most skilled offensive post players in the NBA. This summer he won MVP of the world championship games leading Spain to the gold. However, he broke a bone in his foot and is still injured.
After last year, we had too many role players left over from Hubie and had to shake things up. That started with trading Shane Battier for the 8th overall draft pick where we picked Rudy Gay.
Rudy Gay is to the Grizzlies as Vince Young is to the Titans. I see a lot of similarities between the two. Both are the franchise players for the foreseable future. Both came out of college early. Both were hailed as very athletic with lots of potential but not NBA and NFL ready from the get go. The NBA and NFL IQ was/is questioned for both. Both are being asked to carry and lead the team during a rebuilding process.
The Grizzlies have developed a solid young core of Rudy Gay, Kyle Lowry and Hakim Warrick. I like to compare these 3 to Vince, Lendale, and Pacman.
I hope the rest of you from the Tennessee area have the chance to catch the Grizzlies on TV sometime. You'll enjoy thier fight and hustle despite being the underdog because of lots of injuries and having one of the youngest teams in the NBA.
